Chris and Jimmy light one up with their review of Taking Woodstock this week. The fire doesn’t last long though, as Chris thinks Ang Lee simply doesn’t have a focused script and thus it’s difficult to take a clear message from the film. Jimmy notes that the small marketing push touts Taking Woodstock as a light comedy, but Chris makes it clear that Ang Lee should stick to drama. Both guys seem lukewarm on the film and ultimately end up recommending a rental.
Jimmy leads the “peace, love, rock and roll” DVD picks segment with Martin Scorsese’s The Last Waltz, a film about the last concert by a Canadian rock band featuring interviews with a surprising series of performers including Eric Clapton, Neil Diamond, and Bob Dylan. Chris follows up with his underdog choice of Help!, the generally overshadowed Beatles movie that has some charm and camp that A Hard Day’s Night doesn’t necessarily capture.
This week, Chris and Jimmy drop brown acid, toke ditch weed, and trip the light fantastic inside Ang Lee’s “Taking Woodstock.”
