It has been a big week for PC news. If you haven’t heard, the next expansion for World of Warcraft, titled Cataclysm, was announced and it will completely change the level 1-60 level progression with all starting areas being changed. It also bumps the level-cap to 85 and introduces 2 news races to the game. Unfortunately, Blizzard hasn’t announced a release time frame yet, so it is probably still a ways out. Blizzcon also delivered some Diablo III news including the announcement of a new class, the monk, and word that it will probably be a 2011 release. Blizzard sure does like to take their time. Also, Tricia Helfer will be in StarCraft II.
In other MMO news, IGN has an exclusive, developer-driven, 20 minute video look at Star Wars: The Old Republic. They cover a lot including, voiced NPCs, class differentiations and more. It looks like it could be the next evolution for MMOs, but is full voice-over something that will be enjoyable over the long term? Many MMO players skip right past story elements and it with it being all voiced, that may become tedious, especially when leveling alternate characters.
There are a few other tidbits of news this week lead by the announcement of Napoleon: Total War and the news that Guild Wars II will be a full-fledged MMO.
Covered games and topics: WoW Cataclysm, Diablo III Monk, Star Wars: The Old Republic, Napoleon: Total War, Guild Wars II, Aion, emails
The 2009 editions of QuakeCon, BlizzCon, and Gamescom are now in the books, and just in time, because frankly whoever thought throwing three major gaming events in the same two period was a good idea needs to be, well, should have to cover all of them and see how they feel in the morning. But we’ve got some great talking fodder, now, including the new World of Warcraft expansion, the Diablo III news, Guild Wars 2, an awesome Star Wars: The Old Republic video, and much, much more.
We even talk about how Ozzy Osbourne choked Jeff, and Jeff liked it!
