Donald Mustard has been making the rounds with the games press with the release of Shadow Complex and this week he drops in here with 1UP’s David Ellis. All of the topics center around Mustard’s game to some extent, but there is a lot of ground covered here.
First up is a discussion about Metroid versus Castlevania. The 2 games are often put in the same camp, but it is interesting to hear their differences discussed. Mustard gives the nod to Metroid and that definitely shows through in his game. The rest of the topics all center around story and storytelling in games. There are few details about the way Chair handles story in their game design and the guys talk about alternate history settings. Jason makes it clear how many potentially interesting game setting are still untapped with his mention of an RPG set during the Revolutionary War.
The recent controversy surrounding Shadow Complex is not mentioned here. No matter what your view on the issue, it would be nice to hear the developer’s take and any comments they may have. Whether it’s related to maintaining relationships or for some other reason, these kinds of issues seems to be something the games press doesn’t often address in a direct way.
Chair Entertainment’s Donald Mustard and 1UP’s David Ellis join Bitmob’s Dan “Shoe” Hsu and Jason Wilson to chat about Castlevania vs. Metroid, stories transcending their media, alternative history storylines, and good games with bad endings.
