PlayStation 3 Slim talk starts this one out with a little but of discussion about the PSP Go. They have a lot of nice things to say about the value of the system, but feel like it may be hitting an area where it’s still not cheap enough for the casually interested and the hardcore probably already own one. Sales through the holidays will be interesting. The new 3.0 firmware leads into the topic of ads in console dashboards.
The Orson Scott Card/Shadow Complex issue is discussed heavily here. Rather than taking the staunch stance which the Rebel FM guys took last week, the Player One crew almost uniformly takes the pragmatic approach of judging a game primarily based on its content. While both approaches make sense, as a consumer, the game’s content should speak for itself and we should not have to be aware of the complete background of a game and the people involved to know if we are being socially responsible in purchasing it. The problem in this case is– we do know.
Political issues aside, Shadow Complex is a hit with most of the guys. Almost inexplicably, Phil has a problem with the $15 price though. His argument is that the length, along with his perception of downloadable games, just don’t justify the price. While somewhat understandable, it seems like games really should be judged on their own merits and not by their delivery method.
