CO-OP isn’t known for its dance choreography, but the guys give a little song-and-dance at the start of this week’s episode; which is bookended with slightly stranger skits than usual. However, they find the time to revisit Gears of War 2 and Wipeout HD for some new DLC, and they have some fun with Fat Princess.
When they can get past its server issues, Fat Princess is charming the group with its simple gameplay and great class-based design. While the basic mechanics are relatively simple, everyone is having fun discovering new capture-the-princess strategies, as well as some new exploits. The simple, ‘almost casual’ gameplay makes it a ‘refreshing’ new game.
Gears of War 2‘s All Fronts DLC proves that stealth doesn’t quite fit in the Gears of War style, but 1up’s David Ellis is glad to have a chance to at least give it a shot. The real value of the DLC is that includes all previous map packs, and the group shares some of their favorite arenas. Watching them play the maps, it’s a great reminder of how good Gears of War 2 looks, and it’s a good excuse to revisit the original game.
The Wipeout HD Fury DLC is another great update to a recent game that adds new gametypes and content. The Wipeout series originated in 1995, and it’s impressive that new DLC is introducing new gameplay mechanics. While it won’t attract new fans; the new modes, ships and strategies should interest existing players.
Old Tech, new tech, it all has the same capacity to annoy Rob. That doesn’t stop us from downloading the Gears of War DLC, Fat Princess and Wipeout HD Fury, though.
