GWJ is missing both Sean and Shawn this week, but a special community guest helps keep the show going as Julian Murdoch hosts and asks if editing tools and user generator content are asking too much from gamers.
Since none of the GWJ crew has actually done any modding themselves, community member Todd Robinson, academic director of game design at the Art Institute of California, provides some good points on whether editing tools are a worthwhile investment for developers considering how few players use them, and if user generate content can actually drive sales.
For current games, Splosion Man gets more praise for its humor and simplistic game system; everyone is excited for Fat Princes, but there’s no one to play with yet; and Wii Sports Resorts has taken over Julian’s house. Emails bring a great question: what is the most expensive hardware you’ve bought to play a single game?
Covered games and topics: Chrono Trigger, Demigod, Magic: The Gathering, Splosion Man, Fat Princess, mod tools, user generated content
This week Todd “Sephirotic” Robinson joins Julian, Cory and Rob to talk gaming mod tools, exploding men and Cory’s love of cake.
