Xbox 360 Fancast 125 — Domo Arigato

by Jonathan Downin in Games928 days ago

For a Xbox Live Arcade release, Battlefield 1943 has dominated game podcasts since its release.  Maybe the issues it had actually plays out well for the game in the long run since it is getting so much coverage. We’re are in the doldrums of summer and the releases are few and far in-between.  The Summer of Arcade is a good initiative by Microsoft to combat the slow release schedule even if only a couple of the games are going to be really good.  As the guys point out, it is weird that The Secret Of Monkey Island: Special Edition isn’t...

Good Grief: 07/13/2009

by Jonathan Downin in Games928 days ago

Video games going digital is a topic that is very popular recently.  The Good Grief crew chimes in with their opinion on the subject at the beginning. It’s a fighting game extravaganza in the middle section here with Richard talking a lot about Street Fighter and a few other fighting games.  Tina is sitting in and takes the role of most of us in not knowing much about this classic genre.  Even with fighting games making a resurgence recently, it still seems to be a dying breed. Battlefield Heroes has the crew full of stories at the end. ...

Mobcast Episode 011

by Jonathan Downin in Games928 days ago

It’s another Mobcast and that means a lot of EGM reminiscing.  If you are a fan of a lot of the old EGM peoples’ podcasts it is likely that you have heard some of these stories before.  It is still definitely worth a listen even if you have heard these before though. Bitmob is built to be a site that is centered around their community and having someone from their community on this episode shows their commitment to that.  It’s nice to see this sort of thing happening.  It would inevitably be hit or miss, but they should have...

Player One Podcast | Episode 142 – Walk Like They Do On The Moon

by Jonathan Downin in Games929 days ago

This may be the most good things to be said about Transformers 2 on a podcast ever, but it is still just deemed moderately entertaining. The guys spend over 30 minutes talking about the Genesis “classic” Moonwalker.  This is a lot of time for a game that really wasn’t that great.  A game that has synchronized group dancing with dogs can’t be all bad though. Talk of LucasArts classic takes up a good portion of this episode.  The recently released Tales of Monkey Island episode gets covered here as do the recent Steam re-releases....

Major Nelson Radio – Show #325: NCAA, BF:1943, Madden, Babo:Invasion and gdgt.com

by Jonathan Downin in Games929 days ago

The Major has an interview with Gordan van Dyke  on talking about Battlefield: 1943 and the recent load issues plaguing the online play.  They are apparently throwing loads of servers at the problem so hopefully it will actually be playable sometime soon. The NCAA and Madden interviews are fairly by-the-book.  There is too much new information here, but if you like those franchising, you are probably  going to buy these anyway. Ryan Block shows up for the last interview and the Major sounds to be really enjoying the new gdgt.com.  Ryan talks...

Engadget Podcast 154 – 07.11.2009

by Jonathan Downin in Tech930 days ago

The Google Chrome OS announcement has struck the guys as somewhat unsubstantial and showing a wrong approach.  Google didn’t release any details with the announcement and a good point is made here that if Microsoft did something like this, people would be having any of it.  The purely web-based approach isn’t impressing the Engadget crew either.  The overall feeling is that OSs need a radically new approach and this isn’t it. The guys go really in-depth on issues of Android and new handsets that are launching with the mobile...

Game Scoop! Podcast, Episode 126

by Jonathan Downin in Games931 days ago

We get another Game Scoop this week, but there is no Greg Miller!  How can we get by without the classic Greg Miller enthusiasm and the Knockin’ Boots segment? This week we do get introduced to one of the newest members of the IGN team, news editor Jim Reilly.  It sounds like if you want to get a job at a big game news organization you should only sleep hours at a time in case game news happens to come out.  Hmm, sounds pretty familiar. It is obviously a slow time for news and releases so we get a lot of reader emails on this episode. Covered...

Listen UP: 07/10/2009

by Jonathan Downin in Games931 days ago

As you ca see from the covered games/topics list, this week’s episode is jam-packed.  Splosion Man was featured on this week’s 1UP game Night and it looks like a lot of fun.  It could just be one of the first games to recapture the fast 2D action of the classic Sonic the Hedgehog games. The new Tales of Monkey Island episode is getting a lot of good press.  It sounds like it captures the classic games’ sense of humor, but you can only buy all of the episodes in a package on Steam.  This seems to defeat the purpose of episodic...

Joystiq Podcast 100 – Century edition

by Jonathan Downin in Games931 days ago

Battlefield 1943 is not working too well for many people.  Apparently EA underestimated the popularity of the game so they did not allocate enough servers for online play.  How is that possible?  Hopefully it is working after they threw some more servers at the problem. The first episode of Tales of Monkey Island is out and it is good.  Some of LucasArts games have been put on Steam as well and that is a very good thing.  If you want to see more remakes of these old classics get over to Steam and buy the originals. This is a episode 100 for...

Tekzilla | Episode 96

by Jonathan Downin in Tech931 days ago

With Veronica gone, Patrick’s old DL.tv buddy Robert Heron is sitting in to share his TV/video knowledge.  That makes the show a very video-centric show. If you have ever been confused by HD video and how stretching or zooming affects the video you see on your screen, the guys explain it here with some very straightforward visual cues.  Don’t stretch your video people. There are a lot of great software picks this week including a program that will adjust your screen brightness/warmth according to the time of day called F.Lux.  Also,...

The Geekbox: Episode 22

by Jonathan Downin in Games, Misc932 days ago

The difficult job market stories continue with Karen talking about the recent lay-offs at her company PlayFirst.  It sounds like they handled it in the best way possible and Karen was spared in the process.  It’s interesting to hear the juxtaposition of the against the 1UP layoffs in January. This is a very Fitch-centric show, just as it should be.  His recent trip to England sounds like it was enjoyable, if not uneventful.  The campaign to get Fitch a date is still on and going strong.  If you or anyone you know is interested in going...

Rebel FM Episode 24 07/09/09

by Jonathan Downin in Games932 days ago

Up front Tyler shares a story about getting into Civilization 4 and looking up to find that the sun was up.  He makes a good point that the nature of PC gaming is that your face is generally right up against the screen causing you to lose track of the world around you. This really is the Jason Wilson episode.  If you are not familiar with him, he was the copy editor at 1UP before the lay-offs which took place in January.  He is talking about good writing practices and how to improve your writing.  Unless you are a master of your craft, there...

Podcast Beyond, Episode 98

by Jonathan Downin in Games932 days ago

It’s a reader mail explosion this week.  The guys touch on a ton of topics, but the focus always comes back to price drops and a potential PS3 slim.  Chris Roper loves pontificating about the best strategic ways for these things to happen.  One thing is for sure– they will happen, but maybe not this year. PSP Go does continues to be a point of ridicule with it’s exorbitant price.  Sony has claimed that with the addition of 16Gb of flash memory and Bluetooth the price is justified.  The more likely reality is Sam’s idea...

gdgt weekly 046

by Jonathan Downin in Tech932 days ago

The news of Google developing their own operating system is, by far, the biggest news of the week.  There has been a lot of speculation about this, but no one saw this announcement coming when it did.  There are a lot of questions and with a 1 1/2 until its release, there is plenty of time for information to trickle out. Sony is finally dipping the toes in the netbook arena with the Vaio W.  The guys have not gotten hands-on with it yet, but they are a little down on its high price and somewhat cheap-looking aesthetics. An image that is rumored...

Three Red Lights Podcast, Episode 119

by Jonathan Downin in Games933 days ago

A Twitter rant takes up the first 10 minutes of the podcast.  Needless to say, the guys find the whole phenomena somewhat ridiculous. There is a bit of talk about Mass Effect 2 and how it will utilize saves from the first game.  This leads into a discussion about how nice it would be to have your saves stored on Xbox Live so that you could never lose them and they would always be available to you. The real draw here is some impressions done by Jason Ocampo.  You can’t help feeling a little bad for the guy. Covered topics and games: Halo...
