This episode is an edited version of a live show from last Saturday that celebrated the three year anniversary of the Gamers with Jobs podcast. In recognition, they revisited their first topic and discuss game violence while focusing on what has changed in three years; then they answer a number of questions from their live audience.
After touching on the Madden 10 demo, and a few other games, they quickly dive into this week’s subject, game violence, to discover they don’t have as much to say as they did three years ago. The perceived link between game violence and real violence has been weakened through studies and experience, so it’s become less of an issue for gamers and the market. At this point, it seems that game developers are either trying to increase realism and reign-in gore in their games, or go so over-the-top it becomes ridiculous, like Monty Python. Fallout 3 splits the group as some find its violence amusing, and others are put off by it.
The crew then moves on to questions from the audience, getting progressively more drunk and unfocused as they cover topics of game stories, level grinding, the WoW movie, games they go back to, episodic gaming and why they use different platforms. Before closing, they have an in-depth conversation on MMO’s and managing the expectations for new games in the market, especially the upcoming The Old Republic.
Covered topics and games: Madden 10, Trash Panic, Shatter, Demon’s Souls, Blood Bowl, Shatter, Wipeout HD, game violence, The Old Republic, Fallout 3, emails
It’s our three year anniversary and we did a live show this past weekend to celebrate! This is an edited version of that event, so sit back, relax and enjoy.
