The Palm Pre SDK has officially gone public and this sparks a discussion about the viability of web apps versus full apps. Joshua is excited about the prospects of the Pre getting some applications, but is down on the idea of web apps in general. This makes sense in a weird way.
The biggest debate here centers around iTunes and Apple’s choice to break the Pre’s ability to natively sync by posing as an iPod. This is a big, clear statement that Apple doesn’t want anything but their own products to interact with iTunes in a syncing capacity. This brings up issues of anti-trust and as a former lawyer, Nilay has a few things to say about it.
Chrome OS gets a bit of time as supposed screenshots have leaked. There is no hard news here though, and there probably won’t be for some time to come.
Paul picked a pretty good week to take a well-deserved vacation — not a lot’s gone down since the podcast crew last cozied up to their microphones. There were some big announcements, though: Comcast loaded up its On Demand Online offerings with a ton of partner announcements and Palm released the Mojo SDK (and the Pre was blocked from iTunes). On top of that, we saw some more shots of that mysterious slim PS3, Microsoft announced plans to open up retail stores, and Google Chrome remained a hot topic of conversation — for Steve Ballmer and Bill Gates.
