Listen UPAs you ca see from the covered games/topics list, this week’s episode is jam-packed.  Splosion Man was featured on this week’s 1UP game Night and it looks like a lot of fun.  It could just be one of the first games to recapture the fast 2D action of the classic Sonic the Hedgehog games.

The new Tales of Monkey Island episode is getting a lot of good press.  It sounds like it captures the classic games’ sense of humor, but you can only buy all of the episodes in a package on Steam.  This seems to defeat the purpose of episodic gaming.

This leads into a discussion about downloadable games and the pricing/DRM issues involved.  The guys spend a big chunk of time talking about these issues on all platforms.  PSN is a hot topic as well with Sony’s recent comments that the PSN is already on par with Xbox Live and that they are not looking at doing downloadable full releases at this time.

Covered games and topics: Battlefield 1943, Splosion Man, Shatter, Trine, Arma II, Sacred 2, Tales of Monkey Island, Doom Resurrection, downloadable game pricing policies, Fight Night Round 4 getting button support, DRM issues, PS3 issues, “PSN is not behing Xbox Live”, downloadable games/content pricing

Summary/description: Sam, John, David, and Garnett kick things off with Trine, Splosion Man, Shatter, Tales of Monkey Island, Sacred 2, and more in Whatcha’ Been Playin? In the second segment the conversation ranges from the negative community response to TAGES DRM in Dawn of Discovery (Anno 1404) to Epic’s CliffyB assertion that RPG’s hold the future for shooters with a stop along the way to consider how far PSN has come on the PS3.

  1. Someda says:

I’m ready for full game downloads. To off-set the GameStops of the world getting upset MS and Sony could still offer box copies and/or game specific download cards like they did for GTA IV Lost & Damned.

  2. Yeah, that sounds like a good way to do it. It will be weird to walk into a game store/section that is full of nothing more than empty boxes and cards.

It looks like it is going to be the next generation of consoles before we see digital downloads as a standard though. Steam has spoiled me already.
