Another great Mobcast this week with John Davison sitting in the 5th chair serving up some more iPhone gaming picks. His presence also spurs a lot of reminiscing about the old days of EGM and print media in general. He throws out an idea that a high-quality, EDGE-style, publication in the vein of Robert Ashley’s A Life Well Wasted would do well at a premium price point. That would be amazing.
The other interesting discussion this week centers around game stories/ending and what is wrong with them. A great point is made here that less is more a lot of the time. There is a reason that Ico and Shadow of the Colossus are heralded as masterpieces.
Also, inter-cut is some music off of I Come to Shanhai, the debut album from Robert’s band.
John Davison, former 1UP Network editorial director and co-founder of WhatTheyPlay.com, is our special guest this week, joining Dan “Shoe” Hsu, Demian Linn, Michael Donahoe, and Robert Ashley. The guys talk about the evolution of EGM, their favorite underrated game series, some iPhone games, disappointing endings, and more.
