Mobcast Episode 006

by Jonathan Downin in Games967 days ago

With Robert Ashley and Jeff Green on this one it feels like an episode of Out of the Game or the old GFW Radio.  It’s impossible to listen to something with these guys on it and not hear some interesting stories and discussion.  Former 1UPer Che Chou is also on talking a bit about Forza 3. Jeff shares has a few stories to tell about his experiences being on the PR side of E3 and showing his new game My Sims: Agents.  It sounds like it can be a little tough at E3 with a game that is not targeted at the enthusiasts. A little discussion about...

CO-OP | Episode 115 – E3 Special 03: Show Floor Tour

by Jonathan Downin in Games967 days ago

This is episode marks the last one for E3.  The guys are roaming the show floor here so we get a chance to see what it’s like out there and get a glimpse of many of the games that caught the crew’s attention. God of War 3 looks ridiculously brutal.  Ready for some bare- hands decapitations?  You will be completely covered here. The PSP Go gets a nice hands-on segment and look better on video than it does in pictures alone.  It looks like it may be a device that isn’t that appealing until you can get your hands on one for yourself. Finally...

Joystiq Podcast E309 – Burrito of Fate edition

by Jonathan Downin in Games967 days ago

Justin had a chance to get his hands on Project Natal and he is very excited about it.  Apparently, the technology works as advertised, but the actual unit looks nothing like how it has been presented.  AT this point it sounds like it is pretty big and cumbersome so it is still a work in progress. Uncharted 2 is being described as “so pretty it is unfair to every other game.”  Star Wars: The Old Republic has a lot of MMO people excited and the guys says that when you play as different character classes within the game the story will...

Podcasters’ Favorite Podcasts | Part 6 – Giant Bombcast

by Jonathan Downin in Features967 days ago

This is a very special week.  E3 has proven to be one of the best in years, and if that weren’t enough, we have another installment of our weekly feature, Podcasters’ Favorite Podcasts.  Okay, these things aren’t exactly equal, but this is a big one. Ryan Davis of the Giant Bombcast is here sharing his favorites this week and we couldn’t be happier.  If you say that you are not familiar with this podcast, we don’t believe you. It is probably literally impossible that you are on this site and don’t know the...

Giant Bombcast E3 2009 Day Two

by Jonathan Downin in Games967 days ago

Get ready for an absolutely off-the-wall insane podcast.  Leigh Alexander of Gamasutra is on this one and she is full of opinions and love for Kojima and Metal Gear.  Be warned, she is pretty intense, so go into this one with an open mind.  There are some interesting things said about motion controllers, open worlds and intense explanation of the meta parts of MGS4. The conversation starts moving towards some traditional game talk and impressions.  Craig calls on the guys to share their biggest disappointments of the show and Brad gets pounded...

Listen UP: 06/03/2009

by Jonathan Downin in Games968 days ago

The 1UP guys have seen and gotten their hands on plenty more games and they are back to talk about them. Left 4 Dead 2 caught many by surprise, and not necessarily in a good way.  David had a chance to talk to someone from Valve and he was filled in on way they went the sequel route instead of just doing DLC.  The word is that so many of the core mechanics of how the game works were modified and improved that it just didn’t make any sense as DLC. The PSP Go gets some rare positive opinions from David and Mark MacDonald.  Although priced...

The HotSpot 06/03/2009

by Jonathan Downin in Games968 days ago

We get a pretty low key edition for the last E3 episode of The HotSpot.  The guys are just sharing their thoughts on a few of the games that caught their attentions on the show floor. Covered topics and games: Left 4 Dead 2, Konami press conference, Scribblenauts, APB Giddy from lack of sleep and abundance of gaming goodness, Tom Magrino, Tom Mc Shea, Shaun McInnis, and Brendan Sinclair close out the HotSpot’s E3 2009 coverage with a micro-cast recap of what was learned, seen, and played on the show floor. Highlights include Castlevania:...

Diggnation | Episode 205 – Affairs to Remember

by Jonathan Downin in Misc, Tech968 days ago

Apparently, a 14 year old Australian boy found himself in a predicament when a fish went somewhere he didn’t mean for it to go.  Well, maybe he meant for it to go there, but the real problem was when he didn’t want it there any more. The guys get into a discussion about jealousy and how they each handle it after a story about a guy who found out his wife was cheating on him when seeing he in a video he procured. Howard String has some crazy things to say about the internet and it baffles Kevin.  It really is strange when you hear heads...

Out of the Game, Ep. 6

by Jonathan Downin in Games, Misc968 days ago

Thought provoking as always, the out of the game crew is back, but they are missing 2 key members this week, Shawn Elliot and Luke Smith.  Jeff, N’Gai and Robert manage to hold their own and bring out some interesting discussion, especially going into the second half. The topic of generation gaps come in with the fact that Jeff spends a lot of time hanging out with his teenage daughter.  He talks about recently getting into the Buffy series and how he watches it with his wife and daughter.  Robert points out that times seem to be changing...

Joystiq Podcast E309 – Carl’s Jr. edition

by Jonathan Downin in Games968 days ago

As seems to be the trend recently, the Joystiq guys are here with their impressions of the media briefing in a much shorter than usual, 20 minute podcast.  Maybe this is a good way to do it; shorter impressions during the show with a comprehensive wrap-up one the festivities are over. Project Natal is coming off surprisingly well in the press and Chris even mentions that Milo somehow escapes the uncanny valley syndrome.  Alan Wake and Left 4 Dead have proven to be equally baffling, as has the PSP Go at $249. Covered topics and games: Project Natal,...

CO-OP | Episode 114 – E3 Special 02, Nintendo + Sony

by Jonathan Downin in Games968 days ago

The CO-OP crew has cranked out another show and in this one they are talking about the Sony and Nintendo conferences.  Sony fares well here, but again the general thought is that Microsoft just outdid everyone.  Also, the PSP go continues to make people feel like it is overpriced and not exactly what we wanted. Covered topics and games: Metroid: Other M, Super Mario Galaxy 2, New Super Mario Bros.Wii, Uncharted 2, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, PSP Go, PS3 motion controller, Mod Nation Racers, The Last Guardian, Assassin’s Creed 2, Final...

GWJ Conference Call Episode 138

by Jonathan Downin in Games968 days ago

After an absolute avalanche of E3 related gaming podcasts we get this week’s Gamers with Jobs which was recorded before the craziness that has gone on this week.  That doesn’t mean the guys aren’t talking about E3 though.  The topic of this week in honor of E3 is biggest PR blunders.  You can be sure Riiiiiiiiiidge Raaaacerrrrrrrrr and John Romero are not forgotten. Infamous is the game of the week and it hasn’t fared too well with the guys giving it more playtime.  The general feeling seems to be that while what is there...

Mobcast Episode 005

by Jonathan Downin in Games968 days ago

5 guys, 5 topics.  1 of those guys is James Mielke and he is great guy to have on.  He offers a lot of fresh takes here and he also reveals that he will be leaving 1UP to go to the development side of gaming soon. While there are technically 5 topics as always, the discussion really does devolve into a general E3 impressions discussion.  Beatles Rock Band has gone over pretty well with everyone and it looks like one that is a must-buy for any Beatles. Nintendo gets destroyed here with Mielke leading the charge of apathy.  It’s strange...

Giant Bombcast E3 2009 Day One

by Jonathan Downin in Games968 days ago

The Giant Bomb guys always manage to hit so many more games than most other outlets.  How do they do it? Nintendo has definitely had a better show than they had last year.  Almost everyone was upset after last year, but the response has been much more positive this time around.  The guys are pretty happy about the announcement of New Super Mario Bros.Wii and more Mario Galaxy is never a bad thing. Microsoft gets another victory here with the Bombcast.  Although many have said that the leaks hurt Sony, but Jeff argues that if the PSP Go had been...

Listen UP: 06/02/2009

by Jonathan Downin in Games969 days ago

We get a nice, long 1UP Yours today with the guys taking a look back at the media briefings and sharing their impressions.  Special guests Jeff Cannata and Mark MacDonald add a lot to the discussion going on here. One of the biggest discussions on this one is centered around motion controllers and who has the best potential implementation of the technology.  This is a topic that seems to be polarizing a lot of people and this is more than likely due to skepticism bout Project Natal. Covered topics and games: Mario, Vitality Sensor, Mario &...
