Tekzilla | Episode 93

by Jonathan Downin in Uncategorized953 days ago

First up, Patrick and Veronica have a great look at netbooks.  Veronica has a couple of on-hand units, one with Windows 7 and another that is a hankintoshed OS X equipped Dell mini 9.  They both look good, but with the new Intel CPUs coming up in December it may be best to wait if you can. There is a big segment about HDR photography, but there is not much focus on the camera side.  It is all about the software side here, so if you have the camera side down, you should be okay.  The camera side is a big deal though so don’t be too ready...

Rebel FM Episode 22 – 06/17/09

by Jonathan Downin in Games953 days ago

Tiger Woods is getting a lot more attnetion this year than it ever has in the past.  This is most likely due to the Wii MotionPlus stuff, but the buzz has trickled over into the 360 and PS3 versions as well.  It sounds like plenty of fun if you are into that kind of thing. Prototype gets a rather tepid reception with the guys.  The opinions on this game have been all over the map.  It’s hard to think of a game that polarized opinion this much recently. The big topic this week is “information leaks” and how they specifically...

Podcast Beyond, Episode 95

by Jonathan Downin in Games953 days ago

With news of Sony having plans to launch a PSP app store with the PSP Go, the guys have a lot to talk about.  While these reports haven’t been confirmed, it seems like a smart move. Daemon being the Apple fan he is, the iPhone 3G S gets plenty of discussion here.  It sounds like the new iPhone will be significantly more powerful than the PSP and this puts Sony in a weird position.  The guys touch upon a lot of the possibilities of how the iPhone 3G S could affect the gaming industry. Covered topics and games: Apps for PSP Go, Ghostbusters,...

gdgt weekly 043 – 06.18.2009

by Jonathan Downin in Tech953 days ago

The iPhone 3G S leads the discussion this week and Ryan starts by saying that “Apple hasn’t fixed some of the core problems that have plagued the iPhone since the beginning.”  There are some things that Ryan likes about it and his impressions are positive overall.  He does say that it isn’t worth an upgrade for 3G users. The Kindle DX get some middling opinions here as well.  It sounds like it is just a little big big and slightly too heavy to be a completely comfortable reading experience.  The guys also have some problems...

Podcasters’ Favorite Podcasts | Part 7 – The HotSpot

by Jonathan Downin in Features953 days ago

The HotSpot has been a staple in the gaming podcast world for going on 4 years now.  As the years have passed, so have the regular hosts, but the thing that hasn’t changed is their commitment to delivering the news of the gaming world with some commentary and a lot of personality. We initially started Podcasters’ Favorite Podcasts to see what other podcasts in their field podcasters enjoyed the most, but if this feature has proven anything, it is that people have all kinds of tastes.  We have Brendan Sinclair, host of GameSpot’s...

The Geekbox: Episode 19

by Jonathan Downin in Games954 days ago

Why must Nintendo pu out games that make us have to buy a Wii?  There aren’t that many amazing games on the Wii, but there are those games that are just good enough to make the system almost worth a purchase. The recent changes in the World of Warcraft progression has Karen upset.  The point is introduced by Karen talking about the iPhone 3GS.  Oh how the opinions change.  Has WoW finally started its decline? The topic of people coming up to the Geekbox crew at conventions as if they know them comes up.  Almost all of us surely don’t...

GWJ Conference Call Episode 140

by Jonathan Downin in Games954 days ago

The Sims 3 gets some time at the beginning here.  Not all of the guys are that interested in ait, but Julian seems to be having a good time with it. Tiger Woods Wii is getting a lof praise.  It sounds like Wii MotionPlus really adds a lot to the experience.  At $60 with MotionPlus packed in it is a good deal as well. The discussion of AAA games is interesting.  Do you consider a game a AAA game if it is bad?  An answer to this question is Spore.  It was somewhat critically panned, but it was still a blockbutser, AAA game wasn’t it? Covered...

Command Prompt Podcast, Episode 49

by Jonathan Downin in Games954 days ago

Jeff was out searching for a copy of the Sims 3 over the weekend and it sounds like it is sold out all over.  We were able to procure a copy at a Best Buy, but there were only a few left out of what looked like 100s.  It is a whole lot of fun, so don’t let the stigma of franchise put you off. Jason and Jeff are talking about Star Wars: The Old Republic and it makes us want to see some game footage.  If only Bioware would put out a 30 minute walk-through of a mission. The guys also have a few things to say about Left 4 Dead 2 and what they...

Giant Bombcast 06-16-2009

by Jonathan Downin in Games954 days ago

There has been a serious case of Trash Panic addiction going around the Giant Bmb offices with Vinny not being able to put it down.  Sony continues to put good, quirky games on PSN.  At $5 it sounds like a worthy purchase. Project Natal being on Jimmy Fallon is very interesting.  It shows that Microsoft is really interested in evangelizing the technology even a year out from release.  It is also cool to see these kinds of things being pushed into the mainstream with guys like Jimmy Fallon actually being into games and technology.  What is up...

at1UP: 06/16/2009

by Jonathan Downin in Games955 days ago

Have you ever had bounty hunters come to your door?  Well, Mike Cruz has and he is sharing his experience this week.  Want to experience it yourself?  Move to San Fransisco. Apparently there has been a bad bout of “sickness” going through the 1UP offices.  It’s time to drop those idealized views of playing games all day in a swanky California highrise.  This leads into a discussion of the best sick-day games. Mike is promoting his love of Top Chef Masters this week and Jade isn’t having it.  It still somehow spawns...

The HotSpot 06/16/2009

by Jonathan Downin in Games955 days ago

First up this week is a lengthy discussion about Prototype.  After a largely mediocre initial critical reception it has really started to win some people over.  Justin and Kevin are having a lot of fun with the game and it even gets the nod as being better than Infamous by Justin. NPDs for May have come out and as good as Infamous is it just didn’t come through in the numbers.  It sold just over 175,000 units upon release which is not too good for a high profile PS3 game.  This has been a trend with almost all PS3 exclusives.  Look for...

CO-OP | Episode 117 – Special: E3 Live: HALO ODST & Splinter Cell: Conviction

by Jonathan Downin in Games956 days ago

This is a unique episode of CO-OP.  If you didn’t catch Revision3′s live E3 coverage, you can get a taste of it here.  The CO-OP guys collaborated with The Totally Rad Show to cover some of the big games of the show. First up is Halo ODST.  Jeff Cannata gets a full walkthrough of the demo that was on display at E3 and the game looks like somewhat of a departure for the series.  It is based on an open world structure where big action sections are presented in flashbacks. Ryan and Matt get a chance to see Splinter Cell Conviction and...

The Totally Rad Show | Episode 117 – Maniac

by Jonathan Downin in Games, Movies956 days ago

First up this week we have the guys reviewing The Taking of Pelham 123 and Moon.  The first is the most recent from Tony Scott and it fares pretty well, but Moon is the big winner here.  It sounds like the kind of smart scifi that we all love with a great performance by Sam Rockwell. Alex is giving us a look at his abode in the latest installment of Totally Rad Tours.  He looks to have great console and PC gaming setups. Ghostbusters is the game being talked about this week and surprisingly it gets almost nothing but praise.  The gameplay sounds...

Out of the Game, Ep. 7: E3

by Jonathan Downin in Games, Misc956 days ago

Out of the Game continues to be a fresh take on the gaming scene.  Shawn is back talking about not going to E3 this year and what impact that had on his experience.  N’Gai and Robert were at E3 and provide their views on being there and what changes the increasingly broadcasted nature of the show demand. There is a lot more actual game talk on this episode when compared to previous podcasts.  N’Gai is really feeling the potential of motion controls, especially Microsoft’s offering where Shawn and Robert aren’t quite as...

Mobcast Episode 007

by Jonathan Downin in Games956 days ago

Now that the madness of E3 has passed, the guys are sitting down to talk a bit about the site and games.  They admit as much themselves, but they are still in the process of figuring things out when it comes to site content and how to cover E3. Motion controls come up as a big topic this week with a focus on how and if they they make games actually less immersive.  Many of the things we want to do in games are not physically possible so that presents a dilemma for motion controls to some extent. The guys are also choosing their favorite games...
