Good Grief: 05/04/2009

by Jonathan Downin in Games998 days ago

As usual this week’s episode starts with a culling of the boards.  There are 2 great questions this week pertaining to games being stigmatized and justifying them to people around you along with underrated games in franchises.  Some games discussed in this context are Mario Sunshine, Metal Gear Solid 2, Silent Hill 4 and many others.  What games in a series do you think are underrated? As usual indie games come up and Sharkey mentions the Cactus Arcade collection.  It is a collection of some of the best games to come out of the indie game...

Xbox 360 Fancast 115 — Fools and the Pitying of Them

by Jonathan Downin in Games998 days ago

Richard was having some problems with his audio levels last week and things don’t seem to be much better this week. We get a pretty good run-through of games this week.  For those of you wishing that the 360 would get the Marvel vs. Capcom demo along with the PS3, you shouldn’t worry too much.  Apparently the demo only includes a handful of character and only local multiplay with no vs. CPU mode.  Also the guys are talking about the Wolverine demo which is great, download it and give it a try. The last section of gamer’s emails...

TWiT 193: Toodle Loo, Tuvalu

by Jonathan Downin in Tech999 days ago

Disney is bringing ABC content to Hulu and with this Hulu’s quest for complete online TV content domination is almost complete.  If you haven’t you used Hulu, go check it out.  It is a very nice service with fairly minimal interstitial ads in the TV shows.  Also check out Boxee as Hulu is currently supported again, let’s hope it stays that way. Apple has started hiring for positions to start the process of producing their own chips in-house.  This is a very interesting move for Apple and is something that we have not seen from...

Player One Podcast | Episode 132 – Full of Intrigue

by Jonathan Downin in Games999 days ago

The guys start out this week’s podcast with listener questions and they touch upon a lot of different topics.  PSP Go! get some time with the guys and we even sneaked a question in there that spurs some discussion. There are tons of games covering this week and since there aren’t too many big games being released these days they are covering some that have been out for a while. Killzone 2 and Resident Evil takes up a good chunk of the last part of the episode and Greg Ford seems to have enjoyed Killzone quite a bit whereas Greg Sewart...

The Geekbox: Episode 14

by Jonathan Downin in Games, Misc1000 days ago

Mike Cruz and Jade Krause from at1UP are on this week.  Movie talk starts out this week’s Geekbox and the crew is all over the place.  X-men, Wolverine, Fast & Furious and many others get some time.  A lot of tastes are represented here with Fitch loving him some Vin Deisel.  He makes the point that he lacks charisma to such an extent that he becomes charismatic– he could be right. Ryan Higgins has been playing some Left 4 Dead and he is loving it with the new survival pack.  Jade makes a great point that Left 4 Dead’s...

Invisible Walls – Episode 55

by Jonathan Downin in Games1001 days ago

Justin had a chance to take a look at Zipper’s MAG a few days ago and the matches he took part in were small scale 16 player matches.  Weird that it is marketed as a 256 player game, but the press even was such a small map.  The guys talk about the way such large matches will work and pontificate about how the hierarchical system will work. There is also some discussion about Infamous.  The video running looks great with a hovering mechanic being shown.  Shane say he prefers InFamous over Prototype as does Justin.  They both come out...

Windows Weekly 105: Paul’s Itties

by Jonathan Downin in Tech1001 days ago

Windows 7 is the focus this week, as it tends to be every week.  The big feature recently revealed with the Release Candidate of Windows 7 is the built-in virtual XP mode.  We speculated that this would be great for gamers, but as it turns out it is only allocated 256MB of RAM on load so nix that. Paul and Leo also touch on the rumors swirling around the Zune world recently and as far the “pink” platform Microsoft denies that they have any sort of phone device in the works.  This isn’t saying much as they never produce phone...

Game Scoop! Podcast, Episode 118

by Jonathan Downin in Games1001 days ago

There is a Mr. T game being developed where he fights Nazis and teams up with an alternate dimension Will Wright who is a biologist.  Just when you thought that all of the game ideas had been mined, something like this pops up.  At least it’s not another space marine shooter– right? The Six Days in Fallujah story is touched upon here and the guys have some good points.  Greg makes an interesting point about the fact that if no company takes chances like this it will just become more difficult for anyone to ever try expanding the boundaries...

Listen UP: 05/01/2009

by Jonathan Downin in Games1001 days ago

Since it all started at 1UP with David’s article, he is on talking about the PSP Go! and how he got the information he did.  This leads into a discussion on how the PSP business model needs to change to be really viable and successful.  The possibility for the PSP to really take off this year seems to be getting more likely all the time. With E3 just a month away the guys speculate on timelines and schedules in relation to new consoles being announced/released.  The consensus is definitely not this year and problem not even next year. ...

Engadget Podcast 144 – 05.01.2009

by Jonathan Downin in Tech1001 days ago

The rumors of a small form factor Palm Eos are interesting, but hard to imagine.  With people clammoring for the Pre, why is Palm spending their time on a second, cheaper device?  They need to get the Pre out as soon as possible and definitely before Apple’s next iPhone iteration. Verizon has a lot of the tech community in their pockets for some reason.  It is probably due to the better data services they offer.  Regardless, the iPhone on Verizon rumor just won’t go away and it’s hard not to think that it is fueled somewhat...

Joystiq Podcast 095 – Snacktivity edition

by Jonathan Downin in Games1001 days ago

The guys are talking about Konami dropping Six Days in Fallujah.  As they say it took just 21 days between announcing the game to dropping it.  There was definitely controversy, but that is a little fast and obviously gun-shy.  What else does Konami have these days? The news that InFamous will be shipping with an Uncharted 2 multiplay beta sounds very familiar.  Sony is obviously using a strategy that worked very well for Microsoft a couple of years ago.  They have basically guaranteed better sales for InFamous. Steve Wiebe has won another...
