by Jonathan Downin in Games990 days ago

Quite a simple episode of at1UP this week with Dan Hsu and Demian Linn sitting in talking about their new community based editorial site, Bitmob.  If you haven’t heard about this new site yet, there is a nice summary here.  You can also check out the first episode of the Mobcast.  We will be covering the Mobcast for at least the next few weeks to see how it goes. The rest of the episode is spent with the crew talking about the recently released Star Trek.  If you haven’t seen it yet and don’t want any of the major plot points...

Command Prompt Podcast, Episode 46

by Jonathan Downin in Games990 days ago

Just like everyone else the Command Prompt guys are not taking the 3D Realms and Duke Nukem 3D news lightly.  Jason has more than a few things to say on the subject. Thief 4 also comes up and while the sentiment is generally positive there is also an understandable bit of skepticism.  Those of us that played the original can surely agree with Jeff when he says it has taken far too long. A big chunk of time is spent talking about the news that a game based on A Song of Ice and Fire is being developed.  It sounds like it is one of those series...

The HotSpot 05/12/2009

by Jonathan Downin in Games990 days ago

Josh Olin, Call of Duty community manager for Treyarch is on this week and while he dips into some PR speak quite a bit, he is still an interesting addition to the mix.  He talks about the state of World at War, controversies surrounding it and a upcoming map pack. The guys touch on the recently leaked Beyond Good & Evil 2 footage that has yet to be confirmed as official.  If you haven’t seen it yet, it is a must-watch.  We have embedded it after the break so click on through to get excited. Thief 4 has been confirmed to be in development. ...

The Totally Rad Show | Episode 112 – Driving Garments

by Jonathan Downin in Games991 days ago

The Girlfriend Experience is the movie covered this week.  It is the latest experimental film by Stephen Soderberg about the life of a high class escort.  Dan was the only one who really enjoyed the movie with Jeff and Alex panning it fairly hard.  One interesting thing is that in addition to being released in theatres, it is also now available on Xbox Live and Amazon OnDemand.  Also, apparently 1984 was the best summer for movies in the history of the world. In games the guys are talking about Klonoa and Dark Void.  All 3 found Klonoa to be...

CO-OP | Episode 110 – Barbecued Amends

by Jonathan Downin in Games991 days ago

For the first segment this week Jay and Sterling McGarvey sit down to talk about X-Men Origins: Wolverine.  If you haven’t heard already the game is a cut above most other movie based games and is actually one of the best third-person action game in a while.  It could have used a bit more polish, but overall it sounds like the guys found it pretty fun. Demigod takes the second segment and the Philip Kollar and Matt discuss it merits.  If you were into the Warcraft 3 mod Defense of the Ancients, this will be right up your alley.  There...

Nintendo Voice Chat Podcast, Episode 46

by Jonathan Downin in Games991 days ago

We missed this one for a couple weeks, but here it is, back just in time to head in for E3 coverage. There are a lot of games covered this week including Tiger Woods, MySims: Racing, MySims: Agents, Virtua Tennis, The Conduit and a few others.  Craig got some hands-on time with The Conduit and he said it looks pretty good baring some minor framerate issues and lage during multiplayer. After the game discussion the guys move onto talking about the rumors of Microsoft and Sony introducing motion controllers at E3.  They haven’t heard good...

TWiT 194: Red Shirt Guy Gets It

by Jonathan Downin in Tech992 days ago

This is a somewhat unusual episode.  With many of the show regulars taking a pass this week due to it being Mother’s Day the only familiar voice is Alex Lindsay.  Also on the show this week is Brian Daniel Eisenberg, Louis Gray, and Carlos Xavier.  Another thing that makes this episode different is Leo takes audio input from the audience using TalkShoe.  There must be something about TWiT or Leo that attracts inteligent, well spoken people because there is no insanity like there would be on other podcasts were this given a try. The topics...

Major Nelson Radio – Show #318 : First show from the new office

by Jonathan Downin in Games992 days ago

The Maj and e have moved to their new building and it sounds like it was built by a company the has billions of dollars.  They are recording this week’s show from the lobby, which is apparently built like a game designer planned it and there are a lot of people stopping by.  This includes a mystery guest whose identity cannot be revealed and will be playing a part at E3.  Please let it be J Allard! The 2 man crew  have a few things to say about the closure of 3D Realms and Duke Nukem Forever.  E throws out some interesting facts about...

Player One Podcast | Episode 133 – Pleased to Meet You, Soulless Automaton

by Jonathan Downin in Games992 days ago

There is some serious hate directed towards the iPhone this week, not so much from the guys, but from a caller.  It funny how some are so negative about gaming on the iPhone to the point that it comes off as almost defensive.  Anything that widens the gaming audience is a positive thing. The lamenting of the downfalls of Resident Evil 5 and Killzone 2 goes on.  Both of these seem to have equally underwhelmed a lot of the people that were looking forward to them. The guys have some hands-on impressions of the InFamous demo and not all is well. ...

Game Scoop! Podcast, Episode 119

by Jonathan Downin in Games993 days ago

With the IGN crew being in LA last week for pre-E3 game sessions the Game Scoop! guys weren’t in the office on Friday to record an episode, but Daemon and Greg have gone the extra mile and went into the office on Saturday to record a special Saturday edition.  These guys could do the podcast on their own seeing how well they play off of each other. Greg must be one of the only people in games press who is happy about the idea of having multiplayer in Bioshock 2.  He says that the prospect of just a straightforward sequel isn’t too...

Invisible Walls – Episode 56

by Jonathan Downin in Games994 days ago

Some of you may know him from Gamespy, but Miguel Lopez is the newest member of GameTrailers and Invisible Walls. Some cool stuff is covered this week in Dante’s Inferno, Brutal Legend and Wolverine.  Dante’s Inferno looks pretty amazing.  The graphics are great with very unique character designs and it looks to follow in God of War’s footsteps in all the right ways.  Brutal Legend also looks like it’s going to be great.  Let’s hope it becomes the hit that Tim Schafer deserves.  Marcus is talking about Wolverine...

Windows Weekly 106: One Hundred Little Changes

by Jonathan Downin in Tech994 days ago

It is a pretty technical episode of Windows Weekly this week.  There is not much going on in Microsoft land other than the Release Candidate of Windows 7 now being available to the general public. Paul discusses a lot of the smaller changes that have taken place from the beta to the RC.  One strange thing about the recently reveals XP virtual mode is that it requires hardware that supports virtualization and a lot of Intel chips, even the newer one, do not.  Why do things always have to be so complicated? Microsoft in court again, Genuine Advantage...

Listen UP: 05/08/2009

by Jonathan Downin in Games994 days ago

We a get a rather huge show this week with Garnett and at the G4 offices in LA with Shane back to share his wisdom.  There are so many games talked about on this one so rather than pick a few out, we are just going to give you a big fat list, we’re lazy like that.  Games talked about: Plants vs. Zombies, Patapon 2, Excitebots, Left 4 Dead, Fight Night Round 4, Tiger Woods Wii, Final Fantasy XII, Split Second, Blur A big middle part of the show gets into E3 predictions and you get a definite feeling the some know more than they can say. ...

Joystiq Podcast 096 – Golden Guys edition

by Jonathan Downin in Games994 days ago

Chris must be still working hard on his house so we get some Griffin McElroy this week. Justin started a new feature on Joystiq earlier this week named JoystiQuitter with the first edition being about Velvet Assassin.  It is based on the fact that some games just aren’t worth finishing and completing them really won’t add to the quality or usefulness of the review.  This approach is a nice breath of fresh air since this is happening anyway, outlets such as Joystiq being upfront about this actually lends credence to the contents of...

Engadget Podcast 145 – 05.08.2009

by Jonathan Downin in Tech994 days ago

The Kindle DX announcement has been the talk of the tech world this week and Engadget is chiming in with their take.  They agree with almost everyone else that it is overpriced and a little puzzling in its timing, but this then leads into a discussion of what this means for newspapers.  It appears that these print companies are reacting to technology in the same way the music industry did in the early days of MP3. Android 1.5 “Cupcake” is do for release next week and Joshua has had some time with it.  He seems pretty happy with the...
