Invisible Walls – Episode 57

by Jonathan Downin in Games987 days ago

Brandon Jones, the voice of GameTrailers comes on at the beginning to talk about a new feature on the site called GT Anthologies.  These are basically game wikis in the high quality video form we have come to expect from GameTrailers.  The initial games being covered are older games that don’t have a lot of high quality footage available on the internet. The guys touch on the Duke Nukem Forever news, but the real draw here is the video.  They show a lot of the leaked footage so if you haven’t seen it yet, definitely don’t miss...

Game Scoop! Podcast, Episode 120

by Jonathan Downin in Games987 days ago

These podcasts with the long descriptions are messing with the format of posts around here. Greg Miller starts out by talking about InFamous, but he already went into a huge explanation of his experience with the game during Thursday’s Podcast Beyond so if you really want to hear about it, give that a listen.  Nate does voice everyone’s question of what sets InFamous and Prototype apart. Factor 5 has closed it’s doors and nobody has much to say about it.  The studio hadn’t put out many good games in recent years and it...

Listen UP: 05/15/2009

by Jonathan Downin in Games987 days ago

With Listen UP going for 2 1/2 hours it is pretty difficult to pick out the biggest stories every week.  At the beginning 2 boxing games that couldn’t be more different are covered, Punch Out! and Fight Night Round 4.  They both sound like they have things to make them equally awesome in different ways. John is talking about some causal games this week as usual.  After touching upon some iPhone games he moves on to EA Sports Active.  This is a big game for Peter Moore over at EA and it sounds like it is going to be pretty big.  It appears...

Joystiq Podcast 097 – Perfect Strangers edition

by Jonathan Downin in Games987 days ago

Finally we get episode 1 of the Ludwig Kietzmann show.  Justin does get added to the mix half way through though.  Richard Mitchell from X3F is filling a spot along with David Hinkle. With the NPDs out this week Ludwig shares the fact that Riddick sold over 100k units.  This comes as a surprise to a lot of people since it dropped in price so quickly and the brand awareness is pretty slow.  Outside of all the PR speak, that is pretty good, though probably not as much as they would have hoped. Although it was a good effort, the show just isn’t...

Engadget Podcast 146 – 05.15.2009

by Jonathan Downin in Tech987 days ago

The images which depict a slim-line, redesigned PS3 are very interesting.  Sony needs something to make PS3 more desirable and next to reducing the price, making it smaller and more attractive would be the best thing for them to do.  Whether it is real or not, it looks pretty beautiful.  We will just have to wait until E3. Microsoft is still holding a lot of attention with their Zune ads.  The reactions have been pretty positive and that trend continues to some extent here, but the guys air the usual grievances with the $30,000 figure. There...

Cast in the Crowd | Crunch Time Podcast

by Jonathan Downin in Games988 days ago

We have something a little different for you here called Cast in the Crowd.  Although we usually cover the big releases from the bigger podcasts, we also want to be a place where you can find up-and-coming podcasts that you may not have heard of or simply don’t have the time to search out. In this first installment we are highlighting Crunch Time Podcast.   It is one of those podcasts that is a cut above most of the other small and new ones out there. CTP is a game podcast comprised of 2 guys, Jeremy Bogdan and Brendan Kelly.  The format...

Tekzilla | Episode 88

by Jonathan Downin in Tech988 days ago

Windows 7 gets some coverage at the beginning here with a quick rundown of how to setup the recently loosed Release Candidate.   This leads into a discussion on Patrick’s new PC which he has procured parts to build.  He is setting out to build a Core i7 CD ripping box and has some good parts going into it, especially that mean looking case. Patrick and Veronica also cover the SanDisk slotRadio which is a portable media player which you buy preloaded SD cards of music for and treat like the radio.  The songs are cheap, but low in quality...

Podcast Beyond, Episode 91

by Jonathan Downin in Games988 days ago

This is an InFamous overloaded episode.  We already know that the guys were pretty pumped about the game, and now with Greg Miller’s 9.2 score, we can be completely sure that they love it.  They talk about many facets of the game, but the consensus is that it is more fun to play though as a good character rather than a bad one.  It sounds like there is some pretty horrible stuff going on if you play a bad character. The secret Hideo Kojima/Konami game that is being teased is not too much closer to being revealed.  There is some info in...

gdgt weekly 038 – 05.14.2009

by Jonathan Downin in Tech988 days ago

The guys start with this week talking about Verizon and Sprint’s MiFi 2200.  It is basically a portable wifi router that connects to the internet via 3G.  It allows up to 5 simultaneous connections and can be charged/powered via USB.  The usefulness of this will really depend on the plan prices. The SlingPlayer app for iPhone has come out and it’s connection has been limited to wifi by AT&T so you can’t watch your video over 3G or Edge.  This is in complete contradiction to the fact that SlingPlayer apps for other smartphones...

No Podcasters’ Favorite Podcasts today

by Jonathan Downin in Site988 days ago

Just to let everyone know, due to scheduling woes there will be no Podcastsers’ Favorite Podcasts this week.  We have a great group lined up for next week though, so be sure to check back next Thrusday for the an all new installment.

Xbox 360 Fancast 116 — Audible

by Jonathan Downin in Games989 days ago

Wolverine gets some time this week, but the guys are not exactly loving it.  Alexander puts it well when he says if you have played it and still like it, you haven’t played it enough.  True or not, it’s funny. 1 Vs. 100 seems to be catching some good buzz with talk of the beta going around.  It has been a long time coming since its announcement last year, but it looks like it may just deliver the kind of casual gaming that can draw in the mainstream and hardcore. There have been rumblings that Konami is working on a new Xbox 360 title. ...

Diggnation | Episode 202 – Young @kevinrose

by Jonathan Downin in Misc, Tech989 days ago

It seems to be coincidence that Hippie Glen and Pregger are not around this week and we get an unusually long show. Disney has bought a 30% stake in Hulu and that means that Hulu now has content from almost every major network.  Kevin says that this confirms complete domination by Hulu and he is probably right.  It is now next to impossible for any competitor to catch up without a completely innovative idea. Wolverine did VERY well at the box office during it’s opening weekend in spite of being leaked months and months earlier.  It make...

MacBreak Weekly 140: The $30,000 Question

by Jonathan Downin in Tech989 days ago

With WWDC just 3 weeks away at this point the rumor mill is really starting to spin up.  One of the bigger ones related to the iPhone is that it will feature a built-in digital compass.  This will improve the iPhone’s turn-by-turn navigation by a great margin.  There are also rumors of a better 3.2 Megapixel camera that will be capable of variable focus. A new Zune commercial has come out that is another in a line that is a direct attack at Apple.  They insinuate that it would take $30,000 to fill an iPod and a monthly Zune pass only costs...

GWJ Conference Call Episode 135

by Jonathan Downin in Games990 days ago

With free-to-play, microtransaction based games gaining steam, the guys are discussing Battlefield Heroes and Free Realms.  It is very cool that games of this quality are being released for free. Gaming aversions is the topic of the week and once everyone voices their opinion almost every genre of game you can think of gets a mention.  There is an unsurprising number of Japanese style game types listed which just goes to show how the consumer market has really moved away from traditional Japanese game design. Another topic that comes up is the...

Giant Bombcast 05-12-2009

by Jonathan Downin in Games990 days ago

That Josh Olin really gets around.  He guested on this week’s HotSpot and now he shows up on the Giant Bombcast.  No new information here, more of just a repeat of what he covered on the HotSpot.  If you didn’t catch his Call of Duty info earlier, might be worth a listen here. Fallout 3: Broken Steel gets some serious time with Ryan having enjoyed it lot.  He has next no issues with the re-worked ending and really has nothing, but good things to say about it. The guys also had some hands on time with Dragon Age: Origins and it sounds...
