The date is set. The Palm Pre will launch on June 6th at $199 after a $100 mail-in rebate. The mail-in rebate is sending up some red flags, but they hit that magical $199 price point, right? The pre-release reviews are really going to make or break Palm here, maybe even on a company viability scale.
Dell has released the education market targeted Latitude 2100. As Ryan says, it would be one of the worst looking notebooks out there if it weren’t for the accent color on the lid. For the features it packs the price is pretty attractive at $369.
Napster is again rising from the ashes with a new service plan which gives you unlimited streaming along with 5 free DRM-less track downloads a month. Sounds like a good deal, but Peter and Ryan contend that the download-side of kind of plan, while nice, is becoming less attractive as people become less interested in actually owning their music.
We’re a little relieved Palm’s finally announced the Pre launch date and price (even if it does have a rebate), but we’re still dying to get our hands on a device. Also up this week: Dell’s rubbery education-oriented Latitude 2100 netbook, Napster’s newly announced third incarnation as streaming music library, and hands-on with HTC’s Touch Diamond2.
