Engadget Podcast 146 – 05.15.2009

by Jonathan Downin in TechMay 15th, 2009 @ 4:03 pm

Engadget PodcastThe images which depict a slim-line, redesigned PS3 are very interesting.  Sony needs something to make PS3 more desirable and next to reducing the price, making it smaller and more attractive would be the best thing for them to do.  Whether it is real or not, it looks pretty beautiful.  We will just have to wait until E3.

Microsoft is still holding a lot of attention with their Zune ads.  The reactions have been pretty positive and that trend continues to some extent here, but the guys air the usual grievances with the $30,000 figure.

There are so many different rumors flying around about the the launch of the Palm Pre flying around.  So many that it makes the guys feel like maybe Palm doesn’t really know how to pull off a big launch such as this.  This may be closer to being true than any think.  Around Apple launches the rumors are usually very succinct and similar, and the launches usually go smoothly.  Is Palm ready for something like this?

Josh Topolsky and Paul Miller walk into a bar, but the bar is a recording studio.

The bartender, who is the recording engineer, asks, “Why the long faces?”

“Sigh,” Paul says, and looks down at his feet. “Nothing but a buncha crummy phone rumors and probably fake slim PS3 pictures this week.”

“It’s hard to podcast when there’s no exciting news to podcast about,” says Josh, staring off into the distance.

The door slams open: it’s Nilay Patel. “I know what’ll cheer you guys up!” he says as he slams three stiff drinks down on the table. “Trashing AT&T about the Slingplayer app!”

Smiles creep over Josh and Paul’s faces. They nod, the engineer hits the record button, and history is made: The Engadget Podcast, volume 146.
