Podcast Beyond, Episode 85

by Jonathan Downin in Games1030 days ago

The Beyonders are back from GDC and talking about the games– somewhat.  Greg Miller made another GDC diary, but it is pretty short and uneventful this year. Apparently some of the guys got into an exclusive Sony party, including Ryan Clements.  While he was there he got the chance to see a live performance by Janelle Monae, who he was just introduced to, and he won’t stop talking about her and her video called Many Moons.  It’s also embedded after the break. Not to much else going on here.  These guys are really looking forward...

The Geekbox: Episode 10

by Jonathan Downin in Games, Misc1030 days ago

Lost and Watchmen talk at the beginning of this one.  Skip the first 30 minutes to get to safe, spoiler-free territory. The group talks about some games, but then moves onto GDC talk.  The goes to talk about a rant panel in which Heather Chaplin talked about the adolescence of the gaming industry in general as well as gender issues within the gaming industry.  Everyone has a lot to say on this subject and some insightful points are made about views of the industry in the U.S. and how that differences in other countries And just the thing everyone...

gdgt weekly 032 – 04.02.2009

by Jonathan Downin in Tech1030 days ago

The first part of this show is all about new phone announcements and the introduction of Blackberry App World.  If you are in the market for a Windows Mobile smart phone, there is some interesting stuff coming. The Playstation 2 has been reduced to $99 and it is about time.  It has made it to a point where it is very profitable is still selling relatively well.  The PS2 has a huge library of great games so now may be the time to pick one up and dig into that back catalog. Netflix has hiked its prices on Blu-ray rentals and people are not happy. ...

Three Red Lights Podcast, Episode 109

by Jonathan Downin in Games1031 days ago

Some of the guys had a chance to see some video from Mass Effect 2.  According to the Bioware guys, Mass Effect provided them with a great base to build out the world and fix many of the technical issues that plagued the first one.  The word is also that the game will be more of a shooter experice.  Hopefully they don’t take out too many cool RPG elements. Yet more negative prospects for OnLive.  There are good points about bandwidth, but it is a re-hash of what every is saying. The interview with Tera Patrick is useless, but at least...

Diggnation | Episode 196 – Brews on the Beach

by Jonathan Downin in Misc, Tech1031 days ago

This episode is totally off-topic and totally great.  Wanna know what shampoo Alex uses?  Wanna know how many times Hippie Glenn uses the toilet before flushing?  This is the one. The guys cover something that may just save your life, well, not your life, but maybe a relationship or two.  Gmail labs has a new feature that lets you “unsend” an email.  Check out the panic button under labs at Gmail and it will give you a 5 second window after hitting send to undo your enraged rant mislabeled subject line. How to lose your job in 140...

GWJ Conference Call Episode 129

by Jonathan Downin in Games1032 days ago

There is the usual what you’ve been playing segment up-front on this one, but the problem is that none of the guys have been playing too much.  We still have the topic of the week which always prove insightful and interesting. The topic this week is influential old technologies.  Here is a glimpse of some of the pics: color screens, the mouse, the powerglove, Youtube, Ngage.  They hit a wide range, but it is amazing when you stop and think about how many small components have brought us to the point we are at now in gaming. This week Sean...

MacBreak Weekly 134: Leaky Bits

by Jonathan Downin in Tech1032 days ago

The Skype iPhone app came out this week and it seems to be working very well.  The word according to Leo is that with 3.0 of the iPhone OS Skype over 3G will be enabled.  That will make things very interesting. The date for this year’s WWDC has been set for June 8-12 and the MacBreak gang is fantasizing about Steve Jobs walking onto the stage during the keynote with a tablet running the iPhone OS. A little bit of a quiet week in Apple news.  If you haven’t checked out the current MacHeist bundle, head on over and see if it  might...

Command Prompt Podcast, Episode 41

by Jonathan Downin in Games1032 days ago

Jason Ocampo is talking bout OnLive as he got try to give a spin at GDC.  He played Mirror’s Edge on the service and he says that there was just the slightest bit of lag, but that it was almost imperceptible.  He wrote-up his impressions over at IGN. The IGN PC guys had a chance to talk to the doctors from Bioware about Mass Effect 2 and Dragon Age: Origins.  There hasn’t been to much information about ME2, but there are some morsels here.  Looks like we are going to have to wait for E3 to get any real, interesting information. ...
