CO-OP | Episode 105 – Indie Games Special

by Jonathan Downin in Games1025 days ago

GDC is still lingering and the CO-OP guys are pouring the love on some indie games.  Most of us don’t get much exposure to these smaller games so this is a great view into a what that scene is about. If Braid was your first foray into these kinds of games and you are looking forward to more, don’t miss this episode. A huge part of the Game Developers Conference is the Independent Games Festival. We talk to the developers, play the games, and show you why this part of gaming universe is so important. Runtime – 35:41 Links → [web]...

The Totally Rad Show | Episode 107 – Kitty City

by Jonathan Downin in Games, Movies1026 days ago

In movies this week the guys are split between Adventureland and Fast & Furious.  It sounds like the former is a keeper and the latter is as well, if you like what you see in the trailer. In the games section Ninja Blade does not fair well.  While it take a lot of inspiration from Ninja Gaiden and God of War, it doesn’t seem to mix them together correctly.  Wanted fares quite a bit better.  While it also has it problems there are some very solid mechanics at its heart and Alex especially had a good time with it. Can Fast and Furious...

Good Grief: 04/06/2009

by Jonathan Downin in Games1026 days ago

There are some changes coming to 1UP soon and they all sound very good.  They are listening to the community and tweeking the site to include features that many have been hoping to see.  1UP has recently implemented new boards which are much cleaner and logically organized. As usual the group talks about smaller games, both free and cheap.  Want to here about a turn based RPG wrestling game for the iPhone, give this one a listen. There is an interview about the upcoming downloadable Battlefield 1943.  As a game for Xbox Live Arcade and PSN it...

Xbox 360 Fancast 111 — The 111th one

by Jonathan Downin in Games1026 days ago

Alexander is back from GDC and there is not much news.  As he says, GDC wasn’t a big announcements show as it has been in the past few years.  This is largely due to E3 being returned to its former glory after being downsized the past few shows. Alexander does have a few things to say about OnLive.  Apparently the demos screens were 9 feet in the air, presumably to make the downgraded streaming quality less apparent. This is the first show after the end of GDC, and it’s time to discuss all the totally awesome Xbox news that didn’t...

TWiT 189: The Twitter Episode

by Jonathan Downin in Tech1027 days ago

There is great group on this week and the big topic is the economy and how to ready yourself for tough fanancial times.  An interesting idea that comes out is that no matter what your job is, but flexible and approach everything with a sense of entraprenuership. Brian Brushwood has a very interesting theory about Hulu secretly loving Boxee and making incremental changes to thwart them just to appease NBC and Fox.  This makes a lot of sense and when you see the weak tactics used to attempt blocking access from non-traditional browsers you can’t...

Player One Podcast | Episode 128 – Caturday Night Fever

by Jonathan Downin in Games1027 days ago

Like cat stories?  Oh boy have you come to the right place.  Cat stories take up a good 30 minutes of the beginning of the podcast and Phil has had some pretty bad cat experiences.  A burning building and a vicious cat are involved, need more be said? There is a lot of game talk here after the domesticated animal talk and it is all interspersed with Phil feeling the need to break out in song all too often. Everyone seems pretty excited about Punch Out!! but there is some controversy over if the fighter in the SNES or Wii version is in fact Little...

by Jonathan Downin in Blog1027 days ago

When CastMedium launched one thing we wanted to provide was a place for discussing podcasts.  With the introduction of the forums we hope it makes it just that much easier to participate.  There are some forums in place now and depending on how things evolve, the structure and topics are flexible, so let us know what you think. The forums are there for you to start or join in on a conversation.  Anything goes, so go check them out.

Windows Weekly 101: The Turbo Button

by Jonathan Downin in Tech1029 days ago

Windows 7 will ever be the first topic of this podcast, but this is Windows Weekly. Nothing too exciting here.  One interesting thing is that Encarta is officially dead.  If you have been using computers for over ten you surely remember buying a computer and getting a 10 CD set of Encarta.  CD-ROMS were viewed as the way of the future for a long time and the internet has made that notion go away very quickly. Take a minute to feel the nostalgia, if you are too young to remember when CD-ROMS were all the rage– enjoy your youth. Windows 7...

Invisible Walls – Episode 51

by Jonathan Downin in Games1029 days ago

Tons of GDC stuff here.  Although you have probably heard almost all there is to hear about the conference at this point, Invisible Walls delivers again with its video based format.  Surprisingly they also include footage that was not supposed to be taken at all. OnLive gets a lot of discussion, but that is the tip of the iceberg.  Mass Effect 2, Uncharted 2, The Conduit, God of War 3, Punch Out!! and so much more.  This is one not to miss. GDC review! Will OnLive deliver? Does Punch-Out have the eye of the tiger? Runtime – 37:15 Links...

Joystiq Podcast 091 – Disconnected edition

by Jonathan Downin in Games1029 days ago

The Brutal Legend embargo is up and that means we get some juicy details about it right at the beginning here.  There has not been too much information about the game until now, but it is apparently an open-world game.  This makes the game imminently more interesting– unless you don’t like open-world games that is.  The guys have a write-up on it so go check it out. Chris is not happy this week and he lets his fury out on Sony and thePS3 in a big way.  The rants range from the systems updating method to the recent introduction of...

Game Scoop! Podcast, Episode 115

by Jonathan Downin in Games1029 days ago

The PS2 price drop is the topic that starts this one off.  Not much more to be said about it.  If you are reading this it probably doesn’t really affect you unless you are looking to buy a second one. Knocking Boots is the best part of this show.  Greg is settling in and is giving actual decent advice here.  What has happened to Greg Miller? Things wrap-up with reader mail.  Not much real game talk here, but we’re used to that, right? It’s Daemon Hatfield, Greg Miller, Craig Harris and Ryan Geddes this week. Time for your...

Listen UP: 04/3/2009

by Jonathan Downin in Games1029 days ago

Recipe for a 1UP GDC podcast:  1 part journalists, 1 part developers, 2 parts alcohol. Things are crazy from the beginning here, but after the break is when things really break loose.  There is a lot of high level discussion almost being had here.  Everyone has a lot of analogies and a lot of ways they approach and feel about games and it all adds up to nothing too coherent. That doesn’t mean it’s bad though.  There are some great views in here if you can wade through the sea of talking points. Victor Lucas, Sterling McGarvey, Matthew...

Engadget Podcast 140 – 04.03.2009

by Jonathan Downin in Tech1029 days ago

Palm Pre is the big topid for the first half of the podcasts– and would we expect anything less with Joshua Topolsky running this show?  There really is a lot of big Palm news this week.  The iPhone c0uld use some competition so lets hope Palm has their stuff together and can get thing moving with a launch by June. The guys are talking about the Dell XPS 13 and according to Joshua, it is quite a handsome machine.  You have to love his use of handsome.  It sounds like it’s okay, but the usual complaint of the trackpad being on the...

Rebel FM Episode 13 – 4/02/09

by Jonathan Downin in Games1029 days ago

This isn’t the Rebel FM it has been.  If you haven’t heard, Philip Kollar has decided to step aware from the show.  He mentions in his post on eat.sleep.game. that he isn’t going away for good and that he will pop up on podcasts from time to time, maybe even Rebel FM.  That’s makes Rebel FM without its two main creators.  But the show must go on. Though the format is changing we still get the “what you’ve been playing” segment.  They then move on to GDC stuff starting with OnLive.  Matt Chandronait...

Tekzilla | Episode 82

by Jonathan Downin in Tech1030 days ago

Robert and Veronica have a new set for the show and it is looking pretty snappy. Garnett Lee is on this week to put a wrap on GDC.  He talks OnLive, Zelda: Spirit Tracks, DSi, Modern Warfare 2 and Fat Princess.  If you listen to or watch any other gaming podcasts the information is here is nothing new. LeVar Burton is on the show and he has a few fun things to talk about including an old-school style phone bluetooth handset, but the segment seems to run a little long.  Levar sure loves his Twitter is he gives a big chunk of time talking about...
