Giant Bombcast 04-14-2009

by Jonathan Downin in Games1018 days ago

A full slate on this week’s Bombcast.  The guys got a chance to see the new Bionic Commando and they sound pretty excited about it.  They do have some reservations though including the combat possibly not quite delivering. Jeff is talking about the Wheelman and his impressions are a lot more positive than a lot that are going around.  He is the guy who loves him some Fast and Furious though. Brad got to see Saw the game and it sounds like a surprising interesting take on the property.  He likens it to a survival horror game based around...

MacBreak Weekly 136: EULA Schmeula

by Jonathan Downin in Tech1018 days ago

The guys are talking about the merits of Apple monitors versus their cheaper Samsung, NEC, etc. counterparts.  The consensus is that the Apple displays are worth the price if you really care about reliable picture quality. Apple continues to insist that Steve Jobs is still on track to return in June.  The point is made that the possibility of Jobs not returning is probably already built into Apple’s current stock price. The Palm Pre is rumored to be releasing about 2 weeks to a month before the also rumored update of the iPhone in June. ...

at1UP: 04/14/2009

by Jonathan Downin in Games1018 days ago

Game trivia takes up the whole first half of the show and there are some good questions in there.  NBA Jam comes up and makes everyone who used to like sports game, but don’t anymore wonder why they don’t bring out another installment in this series. Jade is inviting a lot of angry emails saying she doesn’t want any Final Fantasy VII stuff outside of the original game and that she was glad when Aeris died. at1UP has proven to not include much actual content.  There are other podcasts that we want to add, but can only cover a...

The HotSpot 04/14/2009

by Jonathan Downin in Games1018 days ago

Wii Motion Plus is a big topic this week.  It really is what the Wii remote should have been in the first place and as a peripheral does it really have a chance for wide adoption?  A good point is made that Wii Play, along with Guitar Hero and Rock Band have changed the conception that peripherals won’t sell. Six Days in Fallujah continues to cause a stir here.  Konami seems to be pushing the accuracy and realism of the setting and context of the game while making the gameplay mechanics completely “gamey.”  It doesn’t...

The Totally Rad Show | Episode 108 – Nubbins

by Jonathan Downin in Misc, Movies1018 days ago

Another great TRS episode this week, but it has to be said, the editing stuff isn’t quite yet up to Steve’s quality. Observe and Report doesn’t seem to be the movie it has been marketed as.  Anyone who has seen the trailer can tell you it looks like a typical Seth Rogen comedy, but the guys have seen it and the word is that it is actually pretty dark and somewhat disturbing.  It may still be funny to you, but just go into knowing there is nothing light-hearted here. Killzone 2 doesn’t get such a glowing talk here.  The...

CO-OP | Episode 106 – How Jason Got His Groove Back

by Jonathan Downin in Games1019 days ago

The first game this week is Motorstorm: Pacific Rift.  This came out last year, but it gets a full segment here.  It nice that the CO-OP crew isn’t afraid to go back and talk about games that may not be new, but have possibly been overlooked. Henry Hatsworth is the second game on the show and don’t let yourself be fooled be the name and art style, this game is by no means casual.  Everybody cannot stress enough how hard the game is.  There is a good point made that EA may have made a mistake with the marketing on this one with the...

Xbox 360 Fancast 112 — Bad Decisions

by Jonathan Downin in Games1019 days ago

Dustin has signed the guys up for a Halo tournament without telling them and made a wager on the match.  The fancast crew sounds like they have some incoming humiliation. Amazon has opened a new section in their Xbox 360 area that sells Xbox Live Arcade titles.  Previously you could buy Microsoft points from Amazon, but now you won’t have to always have extra points left over after purchasing games.  When you purchase a given game you will immediately be emailed the download code. Six Days in Fallujah has caused quite  controversy.  Seeing...

Good Grief: 04/13/2009

by Jonathan Downin in Games1019 days ago

The Resident Evil 5 multiplayer DLC is the talk up-front and Sharkey puts it best when he says “What’s the point?” Sharkey is talking about Weird Worlds again this week.  It sounds like it is basically like the end-game of Spore except on a much smaller scale.  Chris Plante gave it a try and somewhat destroyed his computer– according to him the game may not be responsible though. Sam played some more Killzone 2 and got hit by the system update curse.  PS3 really needs to do something about how that system works.  It shouldn’t...

TWiT 190: Gripping Jobs

by Jonathan Downin in Tech1020 days ago

It’s very small group this week with just Dvorak, Wil Harris and Neha Tiwari on the show.  For those of you who don’t know Neha, she has been around since the Tech TV days and has done a few shows since with a new show named V01d coming soon. Insiders at Apple insist that Steve Jobs has been involved in all big decisions at the company during his absence and that he is still on track to return in June.  His leave is already more than half over so we will soon know how things are going to shake out. The talk of the last part of the...

Out of the Game, Ep. 3

by Jonathan Downin in Games, Misc1020 days ago

Today is another great day in the world of podcasts as we get another episode of Out of the Game.  The whole podcast being based on a “what you have been consuming” concept is really intriguing.  It could definitely not be, but with thoughtful, intelligent people like this on the podcast it breeds some brilliant discussion and insight. The first segment starts out on the topic of food and eating habits growing up.  It is something that many of us now in our 20s and 30s are getting a sense of in our own lives as separate from the norms...

Player One Podcast | Episode 129 – The DSi of the Storm

by Jonathan Downin in Games1020 days ago

Phil refuses to stop singing and starts out this one with some more tourturous riffing.  He did just get married though so we’ll cut him some slack on his joyous outbursts. Chris and Phil picked up a DSi each and they seem pretty pleased with it aside from a minor screen issue for Phil.  The DSi seems great, but it will guarantee that we won’t see a true upgrade to the systems for at least another 2 years.  Maybe we will have to look at PSP for the next exciting hardware update.  The rumor is E3 may be big for PSP-related announcements. GTA:...

Major Nelson Radio – Show #315 : A quick show

by Jonathan Downin in Games1020 days ago

It’s another show on Xbox Live policy.  There is a new site pertaining to the issue put together by Stephen Toulouse that should answer any questions or help you with any issues you may have that pertain to Xbox Live policies.  Not exactly fun, but helpful stuff. This takes up the bulk of the show so this week’s episode ends up being a short one.  e has been out sick for the past week and the rivalry between him and the Major has yo-yo’ed in the Maj’s direction.  He is constantly getting people to get gamerscore for him...

The Geekbox: Episode 11

by Jonathan Downin in Games, Misc1021 days ago

Better late then never as they say.  The Geekbox is back this week and the topics are pretty exclusively not about games.  There is a lot of comic talk with plenty of tangents to go around. The little game talk there is centers around the DSi and what people think about it.  Ryan Scott is pretty upset about the lack of GBA slot on the new handheld, but do that many people really care about that?  With DSiWare, won’t it be more convenient just to download your favorite classics assuming they are released on the service?  Of course that...

Invisible Walls – Episode 52

by Jonathan Downin in Games1022 days ago

This marks the 1 year anniversary of Invisible Walls.  It was a unique take on a games video podcast at the time it came out and it is still pretty fresh.  There is a nice compilation of the moments from the past year and reminiscing in the last part of this one starting at the 28:00 mark. We get some great coverage of Origins: Wolverine here.  This game is about as violent as they get.  There is also word that it will out-do its film counterpart by a pretty wide margin.  The guys report that the action is fast and smooth as well. This week...

Windows Weekly 102: Now With Unicorn Tears

by Jonathan Downin in Tech1022 days ago

The Windows advertisements that have come out are casuing quite a stir.  There have been a lot of bad sentiments about them, but at least they are getting people talking it seems.  It is weird tosee Microsoft firing directly back at Apple when they are clearly not even close in terms of market-share.  Maybe they should have stuck with the Seinfeld ads for a little while. When is something truly exciting going to happen in the Windows world?  Things are moving along so incrementally these days.  There are rumors of that new HD Zune though– Windows...
