Podcast Beyond, Episode 89

by Jonathan Downin in Games1002 days ago

The rumored PSP Go! gets a little talk time up front, but the strange thing is that it doesn’t get too much time.  This is a common thing in podcasts since the semi-confirmation of its existence.  This is a bit strange.  Maybe everyone is just waiting for the official announcement before they talk too much about it. Greg attended a ton of events over the past week and he has another one of his classic audio diaries to chronicle the events that took place.  There was much drinking, but not so much information.  Apparently he beat some...

Tekzilla | Episode 86

by Jonathan Downin in Tech1002 days ago

Tekzilla is a little late to the game on this one, but they are talking about the DSi.  Coming from a show like Tekzilla it really leaves an impression that the DSi is going to be another huge hit for Nintendo with the mainstream crowd. In a bit of a different focus for the show Patrick got his hands on the new Lincoln MKS and he has a lot to say about.  It is almost a review it seems.  For those of us who haven’t bought a car in the past couple years it is cool to see that technology is creeping its way into cars more and more. Although...

Rebel FM Episode 16

by Jonathan Downin in Games1002 days ago

The Rebel FM guys are back with another podcast right on the heels of their last one.  In the wake of Philip Kollar leaving things got a little slow and unorganized, but this seem to be right back on track with the 3-man team making for a very easy listening and fun podcast. Anthony talks a little about MAG up front this week and it sounds like it is turning into something that could be fun.  The huge 256 player battles sound like they might as well be smaller 32 player matches since there is not much large-scale interaction, but Zipper has a...

Podcasters’ Favorite Podcasts | Part 2 – Gamers with Jobs

by Jonathan Downin in Features1002 days ago

The first installment of Podcaster’s Favorite Podcasts was a big hit last week and this week we have another one for you.  If you missed it, in this feature we ask a podcaster/podcasters to list 3 of their top favorite podcasts and talk a little about why they like them. This week we have Shawn Andrich from Gamers with Jobs.  We have been covering Gamers with Jobs here on CastMedium for a few months now and it has proven to be one of the most thoughtful gaming podcasts out there.  While they do a typical “what you’ve been playing...

Three Red Lights Podcast, Episode 112

by Jonathan Downin in Games1003 days ago

Now that the reorganization at IGN has taken place Charles Onyett is now on Xbox team, but don’t expect him on this one.  Unfortunately he couldn’t make it in on this one, hopefully we will get some Onyett next week.  He should be a great addition to the team. Erik Brudvig was in Manaco last week and get a chance to see Dead Rising 2.  His impressions are fairly positive overall and with the word of customizable weapons and having over 7000 zombies on screen at once the game sounds like a nice step-up from the original.  The somewhat...

A Life Well Wasted | Episode 3: Why Game?

by Jonathan Downin in Games1003 days ago

We are lucky enough to get another episode of Robert Ashley’s A Life Well Wasted this week and it starts out on the question of “Why do you play video games?”  This is an interesting question that few, even when they are asked, take too seriously.  Would many be just as thoughtless with their answer to “Why do you watch films?” or “Why do you read books?”  Are those questions even really comparable? The bulk of this show is spent hearing about and listening to Jason Rohrer.  In the December issue of...

gdgt weekly 036 – 04.29.2009

by Jonathan Downin in Tech1003 days ago

One of the first things up this week is the news that Windows 7 will come with an XP compatibility mode.  It is still a little unclear whether this is 100% true virtualization, but it is good news for gamers if Windows 7 ends up not running quite as fast as with Vista. The iPhone exclusivity and Apple tablet rumors are discussed here and Ryan makes some really great points.  The most spot on observation is that Apple rarely, if ever, enters new markets.  They tend to kind of sit back while markets establish themselves and then come in with a...

MacBreak Weekly 138: All Things Conditioned

by Jonathan Downin in Tech1003 days ago

The idea of an Apple tablet/netbook has been floating around for almost years at this point.  The rumor mill is ablaze again with various sources being sited that we should watch out for something at WWDC in June.  Alex has been clamoring for something like this for a long time and things are no different now.  Just hearing these guys speculate is enough to get excited. The acquisition of Stanza by Amazon is interesting one.  For those of you that are not familiar with Stanza, it is a very powerful tool that gives you portability of documents. ...

Command Prompt Podcast, Episode 45

by Jonathan Downin in Games1004 days ago

If you have been a regular listening of Podcast Beyond get ready for a very different Jeff Haynes.  No more “Beyonds,” just rational discussion about rational topics.  In all seriousness, this is a big change.  Charles is no longer on the show, as he has moved to the Xbox team, and things feel a little strange.  Jeff is a fresh voice here though and manages to infuse some much needed humor. Not too humorous though is the situation with Six Days in Fallujah.  Konami has dropped the game and this has left the developer without a publisher...

Diggnation | Episode 200 – Two Hundred!

by Jonathan Downin in Misc, Tech1004 days ago

Diggnation has hit the 200 episode mark.  If you have been watching from the beginning it feels like those 4 years passed incredibly fast. Kevin and Alex are talking about the prospects of the Zune HD.  Kevin doesn’t look like he is feeling it at all from the beginning and he makes a good point as to why.  Now that we have the iPhone, does anyone really want to carry a 2nd media player even if it is a little more capable?  If it is not also a phone, it loses a lot of its practicality. A Hulu App is coming to iPhone.  Everyone should be...

GWJ Conference Call Episode 133

by Jonathan Downin in Games1004 days ago

Left 4 Dead’s survival mode is recently out and the consensus here is that is pretty insanely hard, maybe too hard.  The guys lament the fact that there were no new scenarios included in this DLC, but come around to the fact that it is free, so how much can you really complain. The Hunter crops back up into the conversation this week and the guys, for the most part, are still pretty enamored with it. Jason Kapalka, of PopCap, is the big draw this week.  PopCap has almost single-handedly brought the idea of casual gaming into the gaming landscape...

Giant Bombcast 04-28-2009

by Jonathan Downin in Games1004 days ago

First up this week is Jeff dropping some details about his trip to London.  He has all of the details about Fallout 3: Broken Steel.  Apparently this expansion pack will actually comepletely change the end of the game, not just let you continue.  Weirdly enough, Fallout: New Vegas does not enter the conversation. Six Days in Fallujah may not be coming out.  After all of the controversy surrounding the setting and context of the game, Konami pulled out and will no longer be publishing the game.  People had a lot of reservations about the game,...

The HotSpot 04/28/2009

by Jonathan Downin in Games1004 days ago

Bioshock 2 is the main topic up front here.  The guys are understandably reluctant to hope for too much from it.  There is mention that it definitely looks better than the first Bioshock in the graphics department.  There is also a mention of if Bioshock 2 was a prequal it could be like an underwater Sim-City where you build Rapture.  Yes please. There has been a lot of coverage of Uncharted 2 recently and the biggest news to come out has been the announcement and subsequent video of some serious multiplayer action.  It looks and sounds to...

State of CM: Voting, polls, features and other site news

by Jonathan Downin in Site1004 days ago

We wanted to do a quick update on the site as things have evolved a bit over the past few weeks and we realize not everyone might be privy to all the details. voting example Firstly, we have introduced a new rating system for each post.  It is a digg style system in that you can vote up your favorite podcasts/posts, but you also have the choice to vote something down as well.  The highest rated  selections will be shown in the sidebar to the right, just under the Latest posts section.  It is a pretty straightforward system and as of now, only...

at1UP: 04/28/2009

by Jonathan Downin in Games1004 days ago

Scooter went to London for the Fallout: New Vegas announcement and then headed to Manaco for a swanky Capcom event.  If you don’t know too much about Manaco this is an interesting listen.  It sounds somewhat akin to Dubai. The crew is also talking about Marvel vs. Capcom 2 which they are playing on Game Night at 1UP tonight.  The new version coming out for XBLA and PSN looks to clean up the graphics quite a bit so go check that out if you are interested. The new G.I. Joe Resolute cartoon gets some talk time here are the group seems to like...
