Game Scoop! Podcast, Episode 113

by Jonathan Downin in Games1050 days ago

Resident Evil 5 comes out for the 360 and PS3 today, but you Wii owners are getting your own dose of RE pretty soon as well.  3 titles have been announced, 1 new on-rails shooter called Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles, and two Wii-ified re-releases of the Gamecube games Resident Evil and Resident Evil Zero.  These last two will be released under the new Resident Evil Classics line. The guys give the new Oregon Trial game for iPhone from Gameloft a few words.  If you were born in the 80s and have an iPhone or iPod touch, who are you kidding,...

Tekzilla | Episode 79

by Jonathan Downin in Tech1051 days ago

PMA 09 just took place and Patrick is speaking to Lori Grunin from Cnet about a lot of the announcements and product reveals at the show.  There is a lot of good information here so if you are a shutterbug (and from the 50s and know that term) this is definitely one not to miss. Also on this episode is a segment about getting scratches out of CDs and if you need to be an expensive gizmo to get the job done.  It feels like it is right out of 1999.  It is still relevant to the gamers and DVD hoarders though.  Not too much longer and kids won’t...

Podcast Beyond, Episode 83

by Jonathan Downin in Games1051 days ago

No Greg Miller this week and the cast just isn’t the same.  Hope he is enjoying his free chicken wings. A price drop for PS3 is unanimously predicted by the boys this week.  $299 anyone?  With GDC coming up there is a lot of excitement about announcements that may be waiting in the wings.  One thing this hasn’t really been rumored is a PS2 price drop, but that gets a mention here as well.  Does anyone really still want to by a PS2?  Hasn’t the Wii absorbed that crowd by now? One of the biggest things about the upcoming GDC...

Three Red Lights Podcast, Episode 107

by Jonathan Downin in Games1051 days ago

Three Red Lights has accomplished something that they have only accomplished  a few times before, they released a podcast 2 weeks in a row.  Dare we hope for 3? With Resident Evil being released on Friday the guys have a lot to say about it.  They feel like it has gotten quite a ways away from what a traditional RE game was, but still fun overall. Fable III has been unofficially announced.  Apparently during the video game BAFTA awards in England, popular British personality Jonathan Ross revealed on his twitter that he had been asked to do...

Rebel FM – Episode 10 – 03/11/09

by Jonathan Downin in Games1052 days ago

A somewhat belated discussion on Call of Duty: World at War in the first half half hour on this one.  The most redeeming quality seems to be the zombie mode, but the game is good overall.  Although not specifically with the Rebel FM crew, there seems to be an overall sense of disdain for the Treyarch CoD games with that comes off a little elitist.  This definitely doesn’t carry over to the generally public even though almost everyone prefers the Infinity Ward CoDs. There is a great discussion about companies such as EA and Activision. ...

Alex and Kevin on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon Tonight

by Jonathan Downin in News1052 days ago

For those of you who haven’t heard Alex Albrecht and Kevin Rose from Diggnation are going to be on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon tonight. This is a big deal for all of us technology and Diggnation fans.  Jimmy Fallon is trying to bring technology and gaming more into the forefront with his new show and has already made big strides in that direction by having Joshua Topolsky from Engadget appear on the show on Monday. Late Night with Jimmy Fallon airs at 12:35 am (EST) on NBC so make sure not to miss it.  Alex and Kevin will be coming on...

As with every podcast this week Watchmen is the topic of the first half of the podcast.  There is no attempt to be spoiler-free so if you haven’t seen it yet, and don’t want to know what happens, you should skip the first 12 minutes. The box art of Fight Night Round 4 has been released and it features Muhammad Ali and Mike Tyson in their primes.  This has caused some controversy.  What do you think about this match-up on the box? And old-school Sega fans, fire up the email clients because Jade has some things to say about how lucky...

Nintendo Voice Chat Podcast, Episode 40

by Jonathan Downin in Games1052 days ago

MadWorld got a 9.0 from the IGN crew.  It sounds like it is a lot of fun, but don’t go into it hoping for a really deep experience. There is an announcement forthcoming from Capcom regarding the Wii.  The rumor is that it will be a remake of Resident Evil: Code Veronica, but the guys say not to get too hyped about the announcement so we’ll just have to wait and see. Mark Bozon is working on a game, called Mighty Flip Champs, that he is hoping will be done in time to launch with DSiWare when DSi is released.  The game sounds interesting,...

GWJ Conference Call Episode 126

by Jonathan Downin in Games1053 days ago

Up front there is some love for GTAIV: The Lost & Damned and Empire: Total War.  Although Empire: Total War is the current favorite with the GWJ guys, they express concern about it not being able maintain their interest for an extended period though. Robert Ashley is the guest on this week’s episode and he continues his streak of elevating the quality of every show that he is on.  He is talking about his podcast A Life Well Wasted and what he is doing with it and what he wants it to be.  Robert shares some of his philosophies about...

Diggnation | Episode 193 – The Lost City of Diggnation

by Jonathan Downin in Tech1053 days ago

Google has found Atlantis!  Well, not really.  The guys are talking about the story on this episode, but they missed one part of the story.  Apparently the ancient city looking image on Google Earth is actually boat paths created by the boats gathering the data.  Too bad. Many of you have probably seen those high fructose corn syrup commercials claiming that it is no worse for you than actual sugar.  Whether that is true or not, Pepsi has decided to reintroduce some of its sodas using only pure sugar with retro can designs.  This is only for...

MacBreak Weekly 131: Tweetie Gets The Bird

by Jonathan Downin in Tech1053 days ago

As many of you surely know Steve Wozniak, co-founder of Apple, is on this season’s Dancing with the Stars and with the first episode  his showing was not good.  The guys are talking about it and as they say, he looked like he was having a great time, but he is not the most agile fellow.  Check out the Youtube video embedded below to see his smooth moves. The reports coming out of Taiwan are confirming rumors that Apple has placed orders for 10″ touchscreens which are fanning the flames about a possible Mac netbook coming this year. ...

Command Prompt Podcast, Episode 39

by Jonathan Downin in Games1053 days ago

Jason had a chance to visit Valve last week.  While there he got a chance to play the soon to be released free downloadable content for Left 4 Dead which contains a new mode, “survival.”  Whereas a typical round lasts around an hour or more, rounds in the new survival game type usually go no longer than 10 minutes.  The mode just throws zombies at you until you are dead similar to “Horde mode” in Gears of War 2. The topic of easier to get into versus complicated games is covered in the mail section and Jason pours on some...

What They Play 12: The one where John sounds like Rorschach

by Jonathan Downin in Games1053 days ago

There is an interesting discussion here about war games and how they can be viewed or experienced as well as when and how to let children play these type of violent games.  They talk about one case where one set of parents required their son to abide by the Geneva Convention if he wanted to play Call of Duty: World at War.  It is an interesting concept and could be a stepping-off point for many parents out there. The topic of violence vs. sexual content is broached again in this episode.  Tom suggests that many of us on an intellectual level...

Giant Bombcast 03-10-2009

by Jonathan Downin in Games1053 days ago

Jeff is talking H.A.W.X. up front on this one and kind of likes it?  It’s a little hard to tell.  It sounds like there are some stability issues, but with those aside there are some innovations and the graphics are great. Eat Lead sounds like it doesn’t work well.  It has its funny moments from time to time, but the gameplay just isn’t there.  With such gaps between the funny and low fun-factor you should probably give this one a pass. Ryan and Brad got a sneak peek at the new Ghostbusters game for PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii earlier...

The Totally Rad Show | Episode 103 – Top That

by Jonathan Downin in Games1053 days ago

The guys cover Watchmen this week and they all like it quite a bit, but Jeff is elated.  Jeff says that his dreams built from the graphic novel were realized here and Alex is on the other end with his somewhat controversial statement that this is one that you should read the book first.  Either way, go see it if you want the geeks to “inherit the world.” Resident Evil 5 also gets a pretty glowing review on this one.  With all of the controversy of the controls it’s somewhat surprising to get this reaction.  The argument here...
