The group is talking about today’s announcement regarding the iPhone OS 3.0 update. Almost everything that people have been asking for, except for video, is coming in this next release. Some of the biggest additions are for developers, but we will definitely reap those benefits as well on the consumer side. Unfortunately, this isn’t slated for release until summer. That could mean anywhere from 3 to 6 months.
As it turns out, the DRM in the new iPod shuffle is not really DRM as discussed last week. Companies are not required to get a license from Apple to produce shuffle accessories, but without it they will have to reverse engineer the technology and will not get any promotion by Apple. That includes no placement in Apple stores. Count on almost all companies getting that license.
