David Sirlin is an amazing guest. He is the man responsible for balancing Super Street Fighter II: Turbo HD Remix. He has a lot to say and obviously knows his stuff very well. Before he gets deep into Street Fighter stuff he talks a bit about evoking different kinds of emotions from players through gameplay. It’s a great topic and some more designers should think about instead of using their stories as a crutch.
It just gets a minor mention here, but everyone should check out a free flash game on Kongregate called Don’t Look Back. It is a simple platformer that you can finish in 20 minutes and as David Sirlin says “it has something to say.” This leads into a discussion about the topic of racism and Resident Evil 5 and how certain types of games and decisions make it impossible for a message to not be put out there.
Chris Watters, Ricardo Torres, Tom Mc Shea, Brendan Sinclair, and game designer David Sirlin talk about watching the Watchmen, balancing fighting games, the used game business, BioShock 2, Resident Evil 5, and… Quiz and Dragons?
