The Geekbox: Episode 5

by Jonathan Downin in Games1074 days ago

The geekiest crew around is back for another cast.  Comics are the topic up first here.  At the launch of this podcast it was labeled as the spiritual successor to GFW Radio, that is definitely not the case anymore. Lots of Lost theories and thoughts flying around.  If you care about Lost, you’ll want to skip past the first 20 minutes of this one. We get a Bubble Bobble rant from Karen, a discussion on Star Wars Galaxies and some talk of Fitch’s clubbing night.  This is the weirdest podcast we cover here– in a good way. Wherein...

What They Play 009: The one with all the Flower talk

by Jonathan Downin in Games1074 days ago

We have another new addition to the site in What They Play.  This podcast is by John Davison, former editorial director of 1UP, and founder of WhatTheyPlay.com.  What They Play has the tagline: “the parent’s guide to video games,” and skews more casual than the 1UPs and IGNs of the world. As the games industry evolves, it is important that we cover the way things are headed, and that means not ignoring the casual space. If you have ever listened to 1UP Yours (now ListenUP) you know John Davison.  His approach here originates...

The HotSpot 02/17/2009

by Jonathan Downin in Games1074 days ago

Some ironic love for House of the Dead from the GameSpot guys.  Sounds pretty “gorrific.” GameSpot does not have a system in place for reviewing DLC, so they don’t have an official score, but Justin Calvert appears to have liked it quite a bit.  A reference to Road Rash was thrown out and that is definitely a good thing. Watchmen is getting a lot of press.  As an old-school beat ‘em up it seems a little strange– until you see some screenshots, the game is beautiful. The NPDs are covered for you number munchers as...

Giant Bombcast 02-17-2009

by Jonathan Downin in Games1074 days ago

Bubble Yum soft drinks and Hershey’s Chocolate Bubble Yum–  no better way to start a Bombcast. As is to be expected, the guys are loving SFIV.  Don’t be surprised if this shows up at the end of the year on Giants Bomb’s game of the year awards. Vinny isn’t loving Flower.  This one of the few negative viewpoints on the game around.  It’s understandable how some people might be put off by the somewhat pretentious nature though.  Braid deja vu– We celebrate a year of podcasts by drinking bubble gum and...

MacBreak Weekly 128: I Cannot Confirm Nor Deny

by Jonathan Downin in Tech1074 days ago

On this week’s edition, Frederick Van Johnson who was to become a show regular has revealed that he has been hired by Data Robotics, Inc. and due to Leo’s TWiT regulations will not be able to be on the show in the future. Palm has announced that the Pre will run Flash!  This is really big news considering how people have been clamoring Flash support in the iPhone since it’s launch.  Is it really necessary?  With native apps and native support for YouTube the iPhone seems to be capable of 95% of why anyone would want flash. The...

The Totally Rad Show | Episode 100 – Intaint

by Jonathan Downin in Games1074 days ago

The TRS boys have finally hit 100!  At just under 2 years old it’s hard to remember what we were watching before this came out. It’s good to see that F.E.A.R. 2 is getting covered here.  That game is in danger of being completely off most people’s radar. Street Fighter 4 has made quite an impression.  It has really been universally accepted in a way that nobody could of thought possible even just a year ago.  If you are a fighting fan, it’s a must-buy. We’re live at the Street Fighter IV launch party! How do the...

Xbox 360 Fancast 104 — Who Watches the Fancasters?

by Jonathan Downin in Games1075 days ago

Dustin, Dustin, Dustin…  Such an endearingly weird character you are.  Richard is the guy who keeps it all together, but Dustin is really the guy that keeps you coming back. The topic of the absolutely overextended state of Guitar Hero is talked about here.  Seriously Activision, take a cue from the Rock Band guys.  The game should be a platform us to deliver downloadable content.  Don’t make us a buy a new base game 17 times every year. Nice Sonic rant from Xav at the 50 minute mark. The unstoppable Xbox 360 Fancast is back yet...

TWiT 182: Have You Met The Internet?

by Jonathan Downin in Tech1076 days ago

Leo usually streams live video of his shows over Stickam at twitlive.tv, but it seem they are having some technical issues over there so it is not up at the moment. John C. Dvorak makes an interesting point about journalism in this episode.  He says that it is actually easier to write a lot of articles a month rather than a few.  It is just the nature of “getting in the groove.”  That’s a concept that isn’t lost around here. Sirius possibly going bankrupt; Pioneer dropping TVs; when is all of this going to turn back around? ...

Player One Podcast | Episode 121 – Pedal to the metal

by Jonathan Downin in Games1076 days ago

We have a new podcast being added to the line-up around here to start out the week.  It’s comprised of former EGM editor, Chris Johnston and former GameNOW editor Phil Theobald.  A new regular addition that many of you may know, is recent ex-1UPer, Greg Ford. The pace here is a little slower and not quite as hard hitting as many of the game podcasts featured here, but that is not necessarily a bad thing.  On the contrary, it’s actually kind of nice to hear thoughts on games from people who are, for the most part, not in the games...

Major Nelson Radio – Show #308 : GTA IV The Lost and Damned

by Jonathan Downin in Games1076 days ago

The Lost and the Damned downloadable content is out this week.  That really crept up fast.  The DLC looks to be pretty substantial, and it should be at 1600 secret Microsoft coins– $20. There are not too many audio interviews with the Rockstar guys out there so this is something pretty fun to listen to. My Florida and NY Trips Interview: Jeronimo Barrera, Grand Theft Auto IV The Lost and Damned (21:08–37:35) Name the Game Xbox 101 Much more… Runtime – 1:23:11 Links → [web] [mp3] [iTunes] [Zune] [rss]

by Jonathan Downin in Bytes1077 days ago

Saturday is here and there are no podcasts.  Even though there is no audible goodness to help you through the day, we are trying to provide you with something for the weekend– in video form.  There is some good info here, listen, look, watch and respond. Tekzilla Daily Episode 285 – Windows: Make Awesome Folder Icons Episode 286 – Firefox: Skip the “.COM” Episode 287 – Gmail: Find Lost Emails Episode 288 – OS X: Hassle Free File Sorting Episode 289 – Windows: One-click Restart Gadget Pr0n Samsung...

Co-op – 0002: Operation Apple

by Jonathan Downin in Games1078 days ago

The second episode is out! The games covered this week are Fallout 3: Operation Anchorage and Skate 2.  The Fallout DLC seems to be unique in that it really is a Call of Duty style, action based expansion. As you can see in the post for this episode over at Area 5, the guys have secured some funding for CO-OP for the next 4 episodes.  This is great news as we can look forward to the guys being able to continue putting out episodes. This week we brought over Nick Suttner of RebelFM and Eat. Sleep. Game. fame to share a Skate 2 love-in with Ryan...

Invisible Walls – Episode 44

by Jonathan Downin in Games1078 days ago

If you are into comics this is an episode not to miss.  There are so many comic games coming out. Everyone that talks about DC Universe Online always has good things to say about it.  From the footage it looks very MMOish.  Aesthetically it looks pretty bland. More hardcore games than we are used to are coming to Wii.  The announcement of Dead Space coming to the Wii is really interesting.  The game is great on the 360 and PS3 and the addition of wiimote control could be interesting. A double-sized Comic-Con 09 episode with a dash of Riddick. Runtime...

Windows Weekly 94: Simplify, Simplify, Simplify

by Jonathan Downin in Tech1078 days ago

A lot of business talk on this episode. When will Microsoft announce the release date for Windows 7?  Many in businesses are still running XP and it seems like Microsoft wants to kind of skip past Vista, so why don’t the just let it out?  Feedback from the beta has been very good and it runs better than Vista so it’s seems like a great way to get individuals and businesses up to speed on the current release. Is there anyone in tech that doesn’t like the Kindle? Windows 7 Upgrade Program, Vista vs. 7, EU vs. Microsoft, Gmail,...

Game Scoop! Podcast, Episode 109

by Jonathan Downin in Games1078 days ago

Greg Miller is back! The Resident Evil racism topic just won’t go away.  In fact, the guys here are predicting that this will go mainstream in the news with the release of the game.  I have to agree.  Just look at what happened with Mass Effect. Having played a lot of BeatMania in my time the prospect of a DJ Hero is pretty exciting.  Better start saving up for another peripheral laden game pack. There is a fiery discussion about the existence of a Lego Universe at the 34 min mark. While many publishers struggle in the current economic...
