Media update and Twitter

by Jonathan Downin in Blog1063 days ago

As you may or may not have noticed, things are evolving a bit around here.  There have been various ongoing aesthetic changing over the past month and a bit of tidying up. We have incorporated the ability to listen to and watch the podcasts on each and every post.  From here on out, after clicking through a post you will be presented with an audio player or video player for the selected podcast.  Now you don’t even have to leave the site to have a listen or just give a podcast a preview. Also, we have joined the Twitter club.  You can...

CO-OP 0004: Our Last Tape

by Jonathan Downin in Games1063 days ago

This episode starts out with Ryan and Miguel Lopez of GameSpy discussing Street Fighter IV.  You can tell the guys have been fans of SF for many years.  It’s interesting to here that when they saw the game early on they didn’t think too much of it, how things can change. The 2nd game discussed is GTAIV: Lost and Damned.  We get a nice appearance from Dan Hsu.  Dan has a little bit different taste in games from the regular crew so it’s fun to get a different voice on things.  Even if you didn’t love GTAIV it’s exciting...

Windows Weekly 96: The Quickening

by Jonathan Downin in Tech1064 days ago

The fact that Google has entered into the case against Microsoft over the bundling of Internet Explorer in Europe is somewhat interesting if not unsurprising after Mozilla did a while ago as well.  Apple can’t be too far behind since they have an interest in Safari. Paul has some rather scathing comments for the Safari 4 beta on Windows.  Safari 4 isn’t quite what people were expecting and actually seems to offer little in the user interface department that is really a step up.  In fact, the tab management has made things worse for...

Invisible Walls – Episode 46

by Jonathan Downin in Games1064 days ago

We get some coverage of a Puzzle Quest: Galactrix event that took place last week and then the IW guys move onto Mad World.  Mad World looks like a great combination of old school beat-em-up and absolute brutality.  If you have a Wii and are looking for your next fun-fix and have a strong stomach, this will definitely be one to check out. They have played a good ways through Resident Evil 5 and can talk about it at this point.  The common sentiment about the controls is reiterated here, but there are some good things to be said as well.  It...

Game Scoop! Podcast, Episode 111

by Jonathan Downin in Games1064 days ago

The PSP2 rumors have really sparked an interest with everyone and the IGN boys are no different.  They have some takes on the recent game announcements. Jeremy predicts that we won’t hear anything about the new team ICO game anytime soon.  Either he hasn’t heard that Ueda Fumito, the head of Team ICO is speaking at GDC or just doesn’t think anything will come of it.  We’ll see. Dating “advice” is all the rage these days and that’s good, because this stuff is killer.  Greg Miller hits it out of the park...

Joystiq Podcast 087 – SaFUNri edition

by Jonathan Downin in Games1064 days ago

Justin is pouring some love on 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand.  There are parts that are just completely ridiculous but they just add to the fun. Good rant here from the guys about PR people and shipping woes.  This leads into a discussion about game reviews.  If a game review comes out a week after the game itself, are you still interested in reading it? The highlight, by far, is Justin’s Wii and DS game reality quiz. He makes Chris guess which games from a Nintendo press release are real and which are fake.  Sorry Nintendo fans, but there...

Listen UP: 02/27/2009

by Jonathan Downin in Games1064 days ago

Get ready to consistantly miss your bus stops and train stations because Peggle is coming to DS.  Peggle Nights just came out for Mac and an iPhone/iPod touch version is coming soon.  It’s a Peggle assault. More talk about the PSP2 rumblings here.  Is it really a PSP2 or just a reinvention of the current PSP?  At this point the latter seems to be a bit more probable.  A slide-up screen model sounds potentially problematic. Word of a PS3 price drop is heating up as well.  $100 is the number that would bring it to magical $299 price point. ...

Engadget Podcast 135 – 02.27.2009

by Jonathan Downin in Tech1064 days ago

Initial impressions of the Kindle 2 screen were very positive, but Joshua seems to feel like the screen has some pretty obvious ghosting issues.  Another issue, that hasn’t really been discussed but is quite valid, is that with ebooks you can’t get a physical idea of how far you are through a book at a glance.  Disorienting. Apple has crept back into the new with the new MacBook Pro 17″, prospect of a Mac mini refresh and a MacBook Air defect.  The guys aren’t please about the non-swappable battery and are pessimistic...

Rebel FM — Episode 8 — 02/26/09

by Jonathan Downin in Games1064 days ago

This week’s episode is not your typical Rebel FM.  With freelancer Robert Ashley, of the A Life Well Wasted podcast on, things aren’t staying on the tracks for more than 5 minutes at a time.  If you haven’t listened to his podcast, go listen to it now.  Robert is currently working on the next episode. The topics are so all over the place that there really is no way to cover what was talked about.  If you are a fan of Rebel FM or Robert Ashley or old GFW Radios where they talked about nothing, just listen. And this weeks episode...

The Geekbox: Episode 6

by Jonathan Downin in Games1065 days ago

Ryan Scott want to be a professional blackjack player and he’s got the spreadsheets to back it up.  Yet another reason this is the most aptly named podcast around. Finally a discussion on Street Fighter IV that isn’t all praise.  The crew here has some problems with the roster.  They are definitely not a fan of Dan or Seth.  They have a few things to say about other fighting games as well. More Lost insights here.  That show is really moving along at this point so if you were into it in previous seasons but got bored with it, now...

Tekzilla | Episode 77

by Jonathan Downin in Tech1065 days ago

A big part of the show this week is centered around the Mobile World Congress which took place in Barcelona last week.  Windows Mobile is the focus here.  Manufacturers seem to be having a bit of trouble getting Android phones out. Veronica does an interview with astronomer, Dr. Frank Summers.  Space is a classic geek subject so it is cool to see it covered here.  There is some really in-depth information here.  Hopefully with more of this kind of coverage, more people will become interested in space again and help fund future NASA projects. New...

Podcast Beyond, Episode 81

by Jonathan Downin in Games1065 days ago

And the week that Killzone 2 hits is here.  The game has received incredible reviews and by all accounts seems to be the PS3′s first ultimate killer game.  Go buy a PS3, or wait as there is a price cut coming according to the beyond boys, and pick up Killzone 2. A few theories from the guys on the rumored PSP2 coming this year.  There have been some rumblings from developers about hearing of development kits being in the wild.  Are we really ready for a PSP2?  Could Sony be heading the Apple route with a purely downloadable game model? Vampire...

gdgt weekly 027 – 02.26.2009

by Jonathan Downin in Tech1065 days ago

After many weeks of talking about it, Ryan finally has the Kindle and presents his hands-on experiences here.  Ryan has traditionally been pretty keen on the Kindle where as Peter is not quite as enamored.  The consensus here is that the price point is just too high. Windows 7 is another big topic this week.  The big news is that it has been pushed to 2010 according to a comment made by Steve Ballmer.  With almost everyone, including the gdgt guys, liking it and feeling that it’s already pretty polished, that sounds like a long way away. ...

Nintendo Voice Chat Podcast, Episode 38

by Jonathan Downin in Games1066 days ago

We missed this one yesterday. Apparently Moon sold horribly.  Less than 1500 copies.  That is absolutely abysmal, especially for a DS game.  It sounds like it’s pretty good as well, too bad. As the guys talk about here, Nintendo should be including DSi Ware point incentives with purchases.  At least include some with the purchase of a DSi.  That would really help promote downloadable games and spur developers to invest in these type of titles.  Portables are perfect for this, just look at the iPhone. Picross 3D is coming.  If you haven’t...

Diggnation | Episode 191 – Evolving Birds!

by Jonathan Downin in Tech1066 days ago

Kevin loves his gadgets.  He is talking about the Kindle 2 in the first story here and adds a whole bunch of features to it that it doesn’t actually have.  Oh, day-dreaming Kevin. Crazy story about a crazy girl.  People, be careful. If you have been wondering why Kevin has been slurring a bit for the past recent episodes he reveals it here, it’s the invisaligns. Kindle 2: First Hands On, 1-night Stand Man Wakes to Find Lover has Carved Name on Him, Amazing Bird Fishes Like A Human, HIV Mutates to Death With New Drug, iJustine + Digg...
