The HotSpot 1/06/2009

by Jonathan Downin in Games1116 days ago

What a way to bring in the new year.  At over 2 hours you better get comfortable before listing to this one. We get a nice year overview here along with a little bit of talk about what was notable last year. I used to not mind podcasts being lengthy, but I’m starting like they should keep it reasonable unless they really have something that needs the extended time-frame. The HotSpot comes out swinging for 2009 with the longest episode yet, far surpassing the surgeon general’s daily recommended allowance of inane chatter. Find out all...

Command Prompt Podcast – Episode 31

by Jonathan Downin in Games1116 days ago

Wow, after almost a full 3 weeks, the Command Prompt crew is back.  IGN has been the worst of the bigger corporate guys when it comes to content over the holidays. What’s coming for PC this year–  the only big thing that comes to mind is id’s RAGE.  Things could be a whole lot more exciting if Starcraft 2 were to come out, but we are talking about Blizzard here so I’m not sure we can expect that one this year. It’s hard to believe that it’s 2009 already. Seriously, the millennium feels like it was yesterday....

The Totally Rad Show | Episode 94 – Pony Tail

by Jonathan Downin in Games1116 days ago

Wow, from everything I had heard I never expected the guys to like Valkyrie (minus Dan). We get an overview of Ninjatown for DS in games this week.  In addition, with Macworld having just happened today we get some talk about iPhone as a gaming platform.  Fieldrunners, go get it. Finally we get a TV segment– about time.  Lost, Battlestar Galactica and a ton of other stuff starts soon.  What the one show you can’t wait for this year? Can we enjoy the ride of the Valkyrie? Our most anticipated movies 2009! Won’t you take me to...

Xbox 360 Fancast 098 — New Year’s Fanmail

by Jonathan Downin in Games1117 days ago

As usual, while others are still on holiday the fancast guys are back with a show.  Xav is absent on this one which is just about an every other show thing at this point. Left 4 Dead seems to have some real staying power.  I have yet to give it a go, but it seems like I am long overdue.  The team-work approach sounds amazing, but I can’t imagine this is catching on with the typical Halo and Call of Duty crowd. I did give Braid a try and that is really– unique.  Nothing quite like it out there.  Definitely worth a try if you like...

TWiT 176: The Fat Middle

by Jonathan Downin in Tech1118 days ago

Like everyone else, the TWiT crew really has nothing to talk about, except for CES and Macworld stuff.  The anticipation seems to be killing everyone. Windows 7 looks great and Apple’s ______ looks (fill in the blank).  It’s funny how the two big players in the tech world operate so differently.  No matter what happens, things should be interesting in the tech world for the next few days. CES and Macworld predictions, iPhone Nano, Windows 7, iFart, dead Zune day, and more. Runtime – 1:08:49 Link (TWiT)

Tekzilla | Episode 66

by Jonathan Downin in Tech1119 days ago

The touchSmart looks really good.  HP seem like they have really stepped up their game recently.  They have good design, great software and have really become one of the best PC manufacturers out there. Camino: Better Than Firefox, Best External Drive, HP TouchSmart PC, Super Subwoofer Checklist for a new PC. Hard Drive Speed vs. Size, SmallNetBuilder, Roll your own backup, What does Gigahertz mean? Runtime – 36:16 Link (Tekzilla)

Windows Weekly 88: Zune Takes A Holiday

by Jonathan Downin in Tech1120 days ago

Paul Thurrott is one of the biggest Microsoft pundits, but he always seems to have more criticisms than anything else.  Let’s call it tough love. The Zune thing that happened on December 31st was pretty crazy.  As any of you who have a Zune 30 and tried to use it a few days ago know, it simply wouldn’t work.  Apparently there is a bug in the Zune software that doesn’t handle leap years well.  The solution– wait until January 1st to use it.  Crazy.  Hopefully nobody needed their Zune for New Year’s party tunes. I...

Joystiq Podcast 080 – Show of the Year edition

by Jonathan Downin in Games1120 days ago

The first episode of the year broadcast from their off-shore oil tanker the Joystiq boys are talking about the reception of their top list of 2008 and miscellaneous other game musings. More love for Fable II and some blasphemous hate for Fallout 3 from Ludwig.  I can understand how the completely open and somewhat unguided experience of the game could put some people off, but the foundation is solid.  In an RPG do you prefer a guided Fable II-like experience or something that is completely up to you like Fallout 3? We kick off the New Year with...

Diggnation | Episode 183 – Spitting Beer and Twisting Balls

by Jonathan Downin in Tech1121 days ago

Alex and Kevin are here again talking social news.  They really do a lot of those live shows.  I would love to go to one, but have yet to make it to one.  Anyone been to one? Whopper or Big Mac– the age old question.  I gotta go Whopper.  BK beats McDonald’s on almost every front as far as I am concerned.  Care to disagree? The next live episode of Diggnation is less than a month away. It’ll be our 2nd ever live show from LA and will take place in conjunction with the Digg LA meetup on Wednesday January 14th at a place called...

gdgt weekly 018 – 01.01.2009

by Jonathan Downin in Tech1121 days ago

Peter and Ryan have their frist show of the new year.  They kick it off by discussing a few details regarding the approaching release of the gdgt web site.  Though it will not be a blog, they will have live event coverage at live.gdgt.com, which will be great. Just to keep us in torturement, the guys are of course talking about CES and Macworld.  Just a few more days.  And of course this wouldn’t be an episode of gdgt without some netbook talk. CES and Macworld are right around the corner, which means this week we’ve got a moment...
