Game Scoop! Podcast, Episode 104

by Jonathan Downin in Games1113 days ago

It’s nice to hear the IGN guys paying homage to the EGM/1UP crew.  A lot of people seem to think IGN is a lower class of game journalism, but if you have been listening to IGN podcasts for a while you will know that the IGN editorial team is really top notch.  They even give a moment of silence to the ex-1UP guys and gals. Microsoft’s Kodu seem interesting.  I’m not sure that it is an exact analogy to Little Big Planet, but it seems like that is what they are going for.  We’ll see. Wow.  The IGN guys GUARANTEE that Duke...

Diggnation | Episode 184 – 4th Annual Diggnation Clip Show

by Jonathan Downin in Tech1113 days ago

Wow, almost 4 years of Diggnation, that is crazy.  It really doesn’t feel like it has been that long since this whole podcast/web video revolution has started. Lots of good stuff here.  If you haven’t kept up with Diggnation, a clip show is a great place to get back into it.  You can always count on Kevin and Alex to bring the fun to social news– and drinking… This week’s episode takes a look back at yours and our favorite moments from Diggnation in 2008. See clips from all of our lives shows in London, Amsterdam,...

Tekzilla | Episode 67 – CES Day 1

by Jonathan Downin in Tech1113 days ago

Patrick and Veronica are covering CES on this week’s show and they have some cool stuff on-hand.  Being live makes this episode a little rough, but still fun and informative non-the-less. The Lenovo dual-screen notebook looks pretty crazy.  After having used a multiple monitor set-up for a few years now I can understand how someone would want more than one screen, but in a notebook?  Seems a little impractical to me.  Lightweight and portable on the go and heavy duty at the workstation is more of the way to go for most I would think. HD...

Windows Weekly 89: Tripod, The Beta

by Jonathan Downin in Tech1113 days ago

This is an exciting one.  Leo, Paul and Mary-Jo are talking Macworld and CES.  Leo is the only one who attended either.  Paul and Mary-Jo insist that there really isn’t that much to get from actually being at these shows from a journalistic end.  I think the live-bloggers would disagree, but they did live-blog the live-blogs–  hmm. As much as I love Apple, I gotta say, the $.30 per song to upgrade bought songs to DRM-free is not cool at all.  Hopefully they will change that, I’m holding out on the upgrade. Microsoft fans...

The Sports Game Guy’s Sports Anomaly 91

by Jonathan Downin in Games1113 days ago

Although we don’t cover this podcast, we have been informed by 1UP’s David Ellis’ Twitter that this is the last 1UP podcast recorded before the “1UPocalypse.”  It’s a bit hard to listen to now knowing what was coming just a few weeks later. The most NewYearsian Sports Anomaly ever created using sound features The Sports Game Guy (Todd Zuniga) along with Greg Ford as they chatter about Madden NFL 09′s playoff predictions, L.T. downgraded from a 99 to a 99, the possibility of Dustin Pedroia on MLB 09: The...

Engadget Podcast 126 – 01.09.2008: CES day three

by Jonathan Downin in Tech1113 days ago

The talk of day 3 is all about the Palm Pre.  If you haven’t seen it, you should go check it out at Engadget right now. It would be crazy if the only phone to have anything that really challenges the iPhone comes from Palm.  I love my iPhone, but I am all for competition in the market.  At the very least, Palm had proved that they are worthy our attention with the unveil of the Pre. Day Three: Pre and P, but mostly just Pre. That’s all you really need to know. But in case you’re hungering for more, here’s the most enthusiastic...

Engadget Podcast 125 – 01.08.2009: CES Day 2

by Jonathan Downin in Tech1114 days ago

CES Day 2 is covered by Engadget on this one and we get some in-depth discussion on the nitty-gritty of the announcements. Unfortunately there was no Zune phone from Microsoft.  That could have been really huge and as time passes it will only get harder and harder for Microsoft to chip into the iPhone’s market. Behold! The glory of Engadget’s CES Coverage, Day 2: Watch phones, Android tablets, Vaio P’s, and press conferences by the fistful. Josh, Paul, and Nilay (who finally got his grubby mitts on a microphone) gather ’round...

Podcast Beyond – Episode 74

by Jonathan Downin in Games1114 days ago

The Beyond crew is ringing in the new year. In what seems to be customary practice at the point, we get some 2009 predictions. Bet game of 2009 being a PS3 game?  Word of PS4 within the year?  PSP2 announced this year?  Those are some big predictions.  My wallet hates it, but I always love to hear about new hardware. Chris, Greg, Jeff, Ryan and Sam are ringing in the New Year with a bang. That “bang,” good reader, is Podcast Beyond. And what a “bang” it will be. On today’s show, the fearless crew ponders over the...

gdgt weekly 019 – 01.08.2009

by Jonathan Downin in Tech1114 days ago

After doing their first first gdgt live coverage, Ryan and Peter are talking about Macworld and CES this week.  The guys seem to be on the fence about the built-in, non-removable battery of the new MacBook Pro. Lot’s of talk about netbooks and ultra-portables here, which everyone loves.  The new Sony Viao P looks very interesting, but quite expensive.  I think everyone is still waiting for the perfect form factor netbook to show up. Oh, and there’s a mention of the possibility (or not) 17″ MacBook Pro’s matte screen trickling...

Rebel.fm – Episode 1

by Jonathan Downin in Games1115 days ago

The former 1UPers are very fast on their feet with this one.  Following them being let go, thus the end of 1UP FM, they have decided to start a new podcast dubbed Rebel.fm. The crew is addressing some circumstances and goings on around 1UP in the past few days and the events leading up to this outcome.  Then they get back to what they do best– game talk. The download is going slow so be prepared for a little wait. Won’t you please welcome Anthony Gallegos, Nick Suttner, Philip Kollar, Matt Chandronait, Ryan O’Donnell, Jade Kraus, and...

Three Red Lights, Episode 101

by Jonathan Downin in Games1115 days ago

IGN has been slow in getting back into the release schedule but the Three Red Lights podcast is finally back, minus Hilary Goldstein. The Xbox 360 guys are complaining Metal Gear Solid 4, a PS3 game– incredible.  The guys give their predictions for 2009 as well.  It sounds like I am not the only one anxiously awaiting Alan Wake. This week, join Ryan Geddes, Erik Brudvig, Nate Ahearn and special guest David Clayman as we kick off 2009 right by talking about all the games we never played over the holiday season. Weapon of Choice developer...

Engadget Podcast 124 – 01.07.2009: CES day one

by Jonathan Downin in Tech1115 days ago

Engadget kicks off their stretch of daily CES podcasts today by talking about Apple.  They don’t seem too impressed with the new iTunes tiered pricing. It’s really nice to hear discussion about Apple from people who cover the industry as whole and are not Apple-focused.  It really makes you realize how much things have changed with Apple getting this kind of coverage even if it’s not all positive.  It warms my heart a little. Why is no one talking about the potential of the new 17″ MacBook Pro’s non-removable battery...

Giant Bombcast 01-06-2009

by Jonathan Downin in Games1116 days ago

The boys are back after the break.  I really liked what they did with their game of the year podcast.  I wish others would follow in their footsteps.  It’s really gives a great inside view into what these guys think about their favorite games and why. The PS3 seems to have more big games than any other platform coming out this year.  I’m waiting for some surprise announcements from Microsoft on Xbox stuff for this year. Oh, and Lego Rock band?  What? The Giant Bombcast returns for the 200Crime with mustaches, AustraliaBux, Dave...

MacBreak Weekly 122: Macworld Expo

by Jonathan Downin in Tech1116 days ago

The guys are live from Macworld.  We get a great group with almost the whole classic group back together. I think many found the the announcements today at Apple’s keynote to be somehwat underwhelming.  I would have to agree to a degree.  iLife ’09 and iWork ’09 look great as does the new 17″ MacBook Pro.  We are left waiting for new hardware outside of the 17″ though. This means we should have some more Apple special events early in the year though, so more excitement to come. iTunes going almost completely DRM...

The state of 1UP

by Jonathan Downin in Blog, Features, Games1116 days ago

As many of you may have heard, 1UP has been bought by UGO and this means many things, many of which we don’t know yet.  One thing we do know is that The 1UP show is done.  It really is shame to see such a great and unique take on the gaming scene go away.  It was certainly something that made Fridays worth the wait every week for me. It will be interesting to see what happens to the other 1UP productions like 1UP Yours, 1UP FM and LAN Party in the wake of this.  This story will be updated as more information comes in.  We wish everyone ...
