Podcast Beyond, Episode 76

by Jonathan Downin in Games1100 days ago

The guys are talking about the woes over at Sony.  The numbers have come out and they are reporting a loss of $2.9 billion in losses for the last year. With these kind of losses it may prove very difficult for Sony to cut the price on the PS3 any time soon, and they need to.  Without a price cut this year you can almost crown the Xbox 360 as the winner of the “next-gen” system wars.  (Wii isn’t next gen, it’s “new” gen) Killzone 2 has gone gold and that should be great.  Let the big game releases of ’09...

1UP Yours – 01/22/2009

by Jonathan Downin in Games1100 days ago

Going out on a high note we get a big one this week, both in length and in topic. We get THE classic group on this final episode of 1UP Yours, back to the good ‘ol days in the aftermath.  It’s enough to make you a little nostalgic. Things have changed, that is for sure. After a tumultuous holiday break, 1UP Yours returns with a classic episode for the ages. It’s the end of an era, and Luke Smith returns to sit down with John, Shane, Andrew, and Garnett for an epic finale packed with Whatcha Been Playin’, NPDs, and lots of...

gdgt weekly 022 – 01.22.2009

by Jonathan Downin in Tech1100 days ago

The death of Circuit City is the big news this week.  Online shopping seems to be changing the landscape of how people purchase products. I often buy products online and find it to be a better experience.  It is rare that I need something on the spot so online shopping works fine.  Are we facing a future of one conglomerate source in the brick and mortar sector?  Really strikes me as a B&L from Wall-E future if so. Dire news this week from the retail world as Circuit City announced its immediate nationwide closure, but it’s not all...

Rebel FM — Episode 3 — 01/21/09

by Jonathan Downin in Games1101 days ago

Can we really be up to episode 3 already?  It just goes to show how quickly these guys were on the up-take. The sound quality here is another step up, if still a little echo-y, from the last episode.  The guys got new equipment and you can tell. There is a great discussion on the review process here.  I think 1UP was on the right track when they converted to their letter grade system, but if you ask me, it should be a flat scale with no pluses or minuses.  What is your ideal rating system? This week we’re joined by Geekbox.net’s Ryan Scott...

Diggnation | Episode 186 – Live In Los Angeles!

by Jonathan Downin in Tech1101 days ago

Another live Diggnation this week and they seem to have finally switched over to the Wednesday schedule.  Only 2 months late on that one.  The audio is much better than in past live episodes so don’t let that scare you off. The guys are talking about the Palm Pre.  It’s nice to hear them excited about it.  Will we really see a true competitor to the iPhone? The wireless charging of the Pre looks amazing.  Everything has to have that soon. A drink laden, star studded affair off Hollywood Boulevard. Diggnation is back before a live...

Three Red Lights, Episode 103

by Jonathan Downin in Games1101 days ago

Hilary is back, and he’s spoiling LOST for everyone in the office.  Don’t worry, he doesn’t let it loose on the podcast. Skate 2 seems to have been re-worked a bit to be a little bit more accessible.  This seems to be a good and a bad thing with a game that is going for realism. As is the Three Red Lights way, not much real game talk in this one, but we do get an epic Star Wars discussion.  Yeah. This week, join Ryan Geddes, Hilary Goldstein, Nate Ahearn and special guest IGN Vice President of Consumer Brand Marketing and the...

CO-OP | Episode 1

by Jonathan Downin in Games1101 days ago

Ryan O’Donnell, Matt Chandronait and the team behind the now defunct 1UP Show have started their own production company, Area 5, and have released the first episode of their new video game show CO-OP. It is somewhat in the vein of The 1UP Show with a focus on discussion of games backed up by game footage, but this seems to be a bit of a special first episode with almost all the big guys previously of 1UP sitting in talking about their favorite games of last year. There are some technical issues and it really is only the first half of what...

Giant Bombcast 01-20-2009

by Jonathan Downin in Games1102 days ago

The drink test seems to have back in a pretty strong way. The guys are still loving on Fable II.  That game seems to appeal to almost everyone and have staying power.  It was a big jump from the original Fable so that makes me excited about the prospect of Fable III. It is going to be very interesting to see what happens with the PS3 this year.  It’s the most important year for Sony yet. We celebrate Inauguration Day with a UK drink taste-test, copious discussions of Street Fighter IV, Skate 2, Knothole Island, our collective frustration...

MacBreak Weekly 124: The Warmth And Saturation Of Analog

by Jonathan Downin in Tech1102 days ago

The iTunes App Store is going very strong.  I really don’t see a real competitor in the market though Google and RIM are trying. More Jobs talk here.  I know most have probably heard enough about this, but if there is one group you want hear talk about this, this is it. Quote of the Cast: “The Apple booth at Macworld looked like the deck of an Imperial Starship.”  -Scott Bourne Steve Jobs’ health, App Store downloads, iPhone inauguration, Obama on Twitter, and more. Runtime – 1:54:36 Link (MacBreak Weekly)

Nintendo Voice Chat Podcast, Episode 33

by Jonathan Downin in Games1102 days ago

The podcast with the most ironic title award goes to– GTA: Chinatown Wars sound like it is going to somewhat a blast from the past.  Many haven’t played GTA or GTA II, but they were really good so this new DS one going back to the stylings of those is not a bad thing. I don’t get MadWorld.  It could be really cool, but it looks gratuitous and lacking a hook in it’s gameplay. We got our hands on Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars and talk about how the pocket sized crime spree is shaping up. We’ve also played MadWorld,...

The HotSpot 01/20/2009

by Jonathan Downin in Games1102 days ago

There is a big crew on this week’s HotSpot. The Godfather II sounds like it is going to be interesting.  A GTA style open world game with a strategy element?  Count me in. It’s good to hear that the game industry is going strong, but it is disappointing that many of the most original and unique games didn’t sell too well last year.  People, please buy original IPs and not just sequels if you don’t want the only games of 2012 to be Dynasty Warriors 42 and Guitar Hero 74. Shaun McInnis, Tom Mc Shea, Sophia Tong, Tom Magrino,...

The Totally Rad Show | Episode 96 – MacGyverthon

by Jonathan Downin in Games1102 days ago

The “Rad dudes” have a new show for us this week and they are covering some more 3D stuff.  3D seems to be coming back around to being “in” again. Valkyria Chronicles looks really great.  If you haven’t checked it out you should because it really is an overlooked gem of last year. If you liked the live show last week make sure you stick around until the end of this one to see some live Q&A. Is My Bloody Valentine slasher-tastic? Should you have purchased Valkyria Chronicles for your PS3? See the best TRS-themed...

Xbox 360 Fancast 100 — Extravabration!

by Jonathan Downin in Games1103 days ago

The Fanboys have hit episode 100! We get a pretty long show here that’s got the guys talking about the good ‘ol days with a lot of clips from listeners and a call from Major Nelson. Congratulations to the Xbox 360 Fancast for making it to 100 episodes! This is it, folks! The 100th episode of the Xbox 360 Fancast. This bad boy clocks in at just over two hours and it’s positively crammed with goodness. We reminisce about the good times, Xav chews out an Alexander hater, we talk to Major Nelson and we eat Marmite. That’s right,...

Major Nelson Radio – Show #305 : The Maw and Ed Boon

by Jonathan Downin in Games1103 days ago

Missed this one yesterday.  First podcast of 2009 from the Maj. Sounds like Microsoft had a happy holiday.  Xbox 360 sold very well over the last few weeks of last year.  They seem to be breaking away from the PS3 after Sony caught up a little bit last year. There is a pretty cool interview with the creator of Mortal Kombat, Ed Boon.  Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe seems to have been a success.  It would be nice to see some more non-hardcore fighters come out. Interview: Josh Bear and Michael Wilford, The Maw (13:03–24:23) Interview: Ed Boon, The...

TWiT 178: Call Of Doody

by Jonathan Downin in Tech1104 days ago

Back to a very classic team on this week’s TWiT. Dvorak is constantly on target with his insights.  He has been around for a long time and is still up on what’s happening in the tech scene on a daily basis. An interesting discussion on the future of Apple here. 3 out of the 4 think Apple will be worse off 2 years after Jobs has left, assuming he doesn’t come back. I gotta agree to some extent. Apple and Microsoft have become more interesting companies than they have been since the 80s. Steve Jobs’ illness hiatus, Windows...
